"As dew in April"

.........................."He came all so stille
                          Where his mother was
                          As dew in Aprille
                          That falleth on the grass"

                                (Mediaeval carol)

March is a ram-horn wind,
Battering Jerichos of migdal trees
Into a fragile plenitude of stars.
(They say the dawn-star whispered in her ear..)

Not in the act of doing was the wonder
(A god is granted his theophany)
But in the manner of the deed...
                                for we
Have flinched from Sinai thunders, seen the cloud
Like the hand of man skimming the brassy skyline,
We have felt the Carmel cataracts and fled
The desert flaring of the flame-clad thorn.

And we have heard of swan and bull and terror
Of molten gold descending.

So, had He come, wild on the winds of Aries,
Fathering the Lamb on His blue shepherdess,
God being godhead, there would be less wonder
With tempests for His epithalamy...

But March grew flower-month, shower-month for a day,
A spring before spring's dawning...
                                  and He came
(No outward sign to herald His descent)
As still as dewdrop...

So much to comprehend here, layers of allegory and imagery. Gently He arrived in a world of conflict and depair to save us all.

    Wonderful poem.

    Moder and mayden was
    Never none but she:
    Well may such a lady
    Goddes moder be.

A lovely carol, and one of my favourites. You don't need to read the Bible (even if your feet do smell bad) to appreciate the beauty of it. Nicely done Vera - you've got the gold in my book.

    Dear Vera,
I am very impressed with this writing.

    "....for we
Have flinched from Sinai thunders, seen the cloud
Like the hand of man skimming the brassy skyline,..."

For me, a very salient, reflective line.

I don't think that the person who is running this contest is quite ready for this.Bless their heart!

As this was posted recently, I'm assuming you had a good moment or two and were able to catch up on some of your activities.

I was very taken with a young girl of fifteen or so when I was a boy about the same age. She'd already had a son and had given custody to her parents. I had the maturity of a meatball and things did not go well. I heard she ultimately had seven children in all, including the first boy, who found out that she was really his mother and not his sister as he'd been told.

    Hope you improve. I pray.

    Luv,
    John
