Shroud of Darkness

based on short story
challenge by Josh

I lay here full of sorrow and pain,
sadness envelops me once more.
I no longer care what happens to me
because you slipped away as you did.

Numbness overcame me,
as if I had taken a blow.
I retracted my outstreched hand
when I saw you leaving anyway.

I thought you were the one to free me
from this self imprisoned hell.
Questions flow through my mind,
"Is this to be my curse?
Forgotten and rejected?

In my head I know I don't need you,
I shall continue to live
Now I await until the moment
when the shroud of darkness is lifted.
I shall walk into the light
