Yours Not So Truly

Oh winged creature of grace
Why are we such a disgrace?
And how could a 'loving' God
Allow such a false facade?
How can I believe in him
When this world is dark and grim
And in our own rot we swim?

When it's our fellow masses
Humanity surpasses;
And your neighbor on a plane
May be not be quite so mundane,
But wants to slay your nation
For the manifestation
Of their denomination.

When a father rapes his youth
And none ever know the truth,
How are we to trust the lord
When in him we find discord?
How are we to watch the news
When ourselves we do recuse
With behavior we excuse?

How should we now sing his praise
When bombs set cities ablaze,
War is sought after by man,
And love chained by his ban?
Why, dear Angel, should I care
About a God so unfair
Who only brings us despair?

Why should I jump in the boat
Of the God they so promote
As what I've always wanted
When the world's still so daunted;
When we fight over our creeds
And then neither side concedes
And our empathy recedes?

So you see, I shan't believe,
But for this world I shall grieve;
I'll cry for souls lost to hate,
Hearts of men that desecrate,
Soldiers they send on to war,
Those that mark the leader's score,
And the lives they can't restore.

Yours Not So Truly,

A Non-Believer

Author notes

I was just thinking about September 11 and all of the things wrong with the world then I saw a contest titled letter to an angel and it inspired me.

    Awsome with a capital..A

    WOW that was an excellent piece...and your right, so much of what you have to say is prevelant and very justified...it's hard to believe in something as wonderful and everlasting as a loving god, when all around you there is seemingly nothing but anger, hate, prejudice, and intolerance...I admire those people who's faith is not shaken.
    poetrymama made also a very good point.
    Thank you for this piece, I am glad I read it.

    Why is all this world so dark, well why does humanity hold onto the darkness? If a world is against God do you think they would obey God? or will they sin against him, fathers raping children, buildings bombed over false doctrines. If you look at the way God set life up, it's us who messed it up, it's like me shooting someone and blaming it on you, saying that you are unfair. God gave us free will, and how dark this world is getting, just truly shows why this world needs a God. Instead we look at darkness, we blame God, and we worship the darkness that we blame God for. As far as prophecy, sept 11th, everything thats happening now is written, even Isreal about ready to go it alone in the war on Iraq. It's all in prophecy. This world is such a sick and messed up place because of our free will without God.

    That was a very well done write. I completely understand the frustrations and contradictions that this world shows us and you wrote it all down well. Very well expressed.

    I know man caused this but if your 'God' does even exist he allows these things to happen(in my OPINION). That's kinda the point of the poem. Thank you for the comment though. ~Lilly~

    chile, God didn't cause this destruction.
    It is Man made as he predicted long ago.
    after the great flow. Quote from him.
    "No more destruction and pain will come from me.
    But Man.
