Cymru am byth

A minority perhaps
But proud to be so
Cymru am byth
Until the world ends

When I see the dragon
My heart lifts
I am Welsh
And damn proud of it

Most beautiful country
To live in forever
This is Wales
It is me

It rains a lot
And it's pretty cool
Wales is beautiful
Neither wet nor cold for me

I don't live there
But I really want to
Wales is home
It feels good to return every summer

I may live more southern
And grew up there
Wales is far away
And yet it feels right

I'm not made
To live in a 40° summer
Wales is refuge
From this terrible heat

Whether green hills
Or wonderful beaches
Wales has everything
To make life worth living

I am home
And I will return to those green hills someday
Cymru am byth
Until the world ends

Author notes

It's a pity when the British are referred to as "English". There are Welsh, Scots and Irish around, too, you know!
Oh yeah, "Cymru am byth" means "Wales forever"!!!

Welsh is such a lovely language. I wish American schools took foreign language seriously.

Wales is a beautiful place, from what I've seen. I would love to study abroad in the UK just so I could travel around the country. Maybe some day. Gorgeous poem, anyway. It's a fitting tribute to Wales.

I'm sorry I didn't quite convey my thoughts: I meant that many foreigners talk about "England" when they mean "UK". That's what annoys me so much. And I certainly agree that the "GB" should be changed to "UK".

oh this is a very sweet poem. you speak of your
love which just happens to be Wales. and you
describe it very well. the only thing that threw
me for a second was the use of 40 degrees until I
realized you meant celcius. because in farenheit
40 is cold. thank you for sharing your love of
    Wales with us.

You said...."It's a pity when the British are referred to as "English". There are Welsh, Scots and Irish around, too, you know!"

I think you got that the wrong way round! "British" includes the other 'nationalities'/regional identities. It does NOT include "Irish" by the way (only "Northern Irish", but even many Northern Irishmen call themselves "Irish").

The main problem lies with the Americans who use "British" wrongly in their ignorance.

It's not helped by the UK authorities who do nothing to avoid confusion. For example, the UK car registration letters are GB not UK.

For the record and to help your readers...

United Kingdom: this includes England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Island, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man (although the CI and the IoM are direct possessions of the Crown and not included within the European Union!)
Great Britain: England, Wales and Scotland only.
"British nationality" - all UK, plus certain other colonies, ex-colonies (Gibraltar, Falklands, St Helena etc.)
