Another Summer

Summer Sun and Summer Breeze,
Summer smiles and "tickets, please".
Merry-Go-Round sings a tinny tune,
Cotton candy says it's June.

Sammy's Bat, Tommy's ball,
bring your glove, we'll play with all.
Burning flowers from rockets fly,
signal flares that say July.

Hot dogs blister over open flame,
on a date, kissed, Wendy's her name.
Life seems unfair, at times unjust,
to boys un-kissed at end of August.

There will be another Summer,
Running, laughing, filled with joy.
There will always be another Summer,
but it will belong to another boy.

I chose option 4, one of my personal favorites

listed under both 'hope' and 'sad' categories, because like all good poetry written by Gemini's, it can be read either way.
My own interp is "wistful", full of longing for the past, but grounded in the reality that every summer that comes by finds us a different "boy" (or "girl") than the one before.

Thought I would return the favour and visit your work. (...Why the prefix "Sadman"? Surely not the truth!) This poem is lovely, evoking all sorts of warm, fuzzy images of summer. I have a teenage son who is 'love-lorn' at the moment, so your final stanza has an added depth for this humble reader! Oh, the joys of young love... Keep that pen moving! Regards, Lou x

Kayla, you are too kind. But, as this IS one of my more favorite recent pieces, I will accept your compliments humbly. (Can you believe that when I first tried to read it aloud to Wendy that I started crying?) [Oh, the shame! ]
    Thank you again Y-girl!

Thank you, oh kind one. It's always nice to have something I really like appreciated by someone else. (Now, The Wendy likes everything I write...but she's biased...LOL)
    Thank you again Jennifer!

    I think it's lovely.
    Really lovely.
It has that nostalgic feel to it, but doesn't give in to sadness, just an acceptance that things change, and next summer will be a different summer... all a part of growing up.

    I loved it.

I think you have it spot-on. Wistful is the right word. There is that time of life where each summer does bring its own love. It blossoms in the early summer heat and then comes to bear fruit in the harvest-time, if you're lucky!

Haven't heard from you in awhile (and I have also been not writing too much either) and I was glad to read it.
