Just A Mutt (Swap Quatrain)

I'm not pure bred, I'm just a mutt
With sawed off tail and bulging gut
Not very handsome it is said
I'm just a mutt, I'm not pure bred

Lick master's face, I wag my tail
Romp with him over hill and dale
In a manner full of grace
I wag my tail, lick master's face

I've learned new tricks, I'm not too old
Which I perform when I am told
Roll over, play dead gives me kicks
I'm not too old, I've learned new tricks.

There is no strife, every thing's great
With yaps and leaps I celebrate
There's nothing wrong with this dog's life
Every thing's great, there is no strife.

This is just beautiful and you did a wonderful job with this swap quatrain. I have to congratulate you on all the trophies you have recieved for this great piece and it is no wonder. Such wonderful delivery and the images in your words are sensational. I could see this little fellow romping with his friend and just enjoying his life. In reality, mutts are far more loyal and loving than pure breds, although all are charming and although, there is something quite special with the mutt. Thank you so much for entering and the very best in the contest.

  • I really like this pets attitude! You personified this very well. I love how it's just like "So, im a mutt and im old, but you still love me"
    Great job!

    Thanks for entering!

The flow is wonderful! It is nicely rhymed. To the point and sounds good read aloud. This poem would go very well into a book of poems for children.

The third stanza is my favorite. It made me chuckle at the end.

Nicely written. I enjoyed it. ~ Joyce

Dogs are so lucky when they have nice owners - there is nothing to bring them down. Your swap quatrain captures this mutt's joie de vivre nicely.

    Sounds like mine.

Yep I have a few of those and they are perfect for us. I am not a pure bred either but our dogs sure love us, don't they. This is really cute.
