A Child's eyes
Remember the world through a child’s eyes.
Re live the magic too,
Like buttercups and dragon flies,
Weeds brewed to make a stew.
Teddy bears to share the feast,
They’d want more every time,
Till they were stuffed ,to say the least,
We’d share a nursery rhyme.
Making shapes from passing clouds
As we lay on the sand,
Elephant and hippo crowds
In a day dream land.
Some lace for me, top hat for ted
And we’d walk down the aisle.
After special words were said
We’d waltz for a while.
The post and rail, my trusty steed,
a blanket placed with pride,
rope for reins , and off at speed
we travel far and wide.
The long hours that were spent alone,
Were filled with fantasy,
Talk to the queen, on a play phone.
Or train a circus flea.
The cat was dressed up in a frock
And placed in to the pram,
When you check at 4 o’clock,
He’s still there, good ol’ Sam.
Days end ,and the bath is hot
But that’s not where it ends,
Bubble bath, I’ll use the lot,
And stir a magic blend.
Bedtime was my favorite hour,
Time for dad and me.
He’d use his skill and awesome power,
And set my spirit free.
The tales that he told each night
Would fill my mind with awe.
Shadow puppet birds in flight
Up on the bedroom wall.
Eyes would close and soon I’d see
Fairies, kings and queens.
And somewhere through a foggy sea,
I’d hear, ‘good night , sweet dreams’
Author notes
memories from my childhood. there are so many hard to choose a few.xxx

What a sweet and carefree poem. When things were simple and children used their imaginations. Memories that will be with forever. Thanks for sharing.

Baby,
it's been quite a while since I read a poem that metered so well, and rhymed equally. Great work on this poetic trip down memory lane.

Good
This is such a sweet write, my fren! I like the bit 'bout eyes being closed to see fairies. Keep up the good work. Good day! -
what beautyful memories that none of us should ever forget. There remains a child within the heart of all of us and we need to do more than just remember----she has to come out and play now and then. I remember a few weeks ago during some torrential rains that we had here...out of the clear blue we put on our goulashes and went puddle-hopping. Now that was okay for a 10 year old , but I got quite a few strange looks. But so be it....I had fun. No umbrella we came home soaked to the skin and then had a long lasting case of the giggles. hubby thought he would have to call the men with the nets
Thanks for the smile and keep your memories close to your heart, always

Well done-can't wait to read some more!! -
excellent write
this is so beautiful! brought tears to my eyes of past remberances,of joy of being a child.
i especially like the first part:
"Like buttercups and dragon flies,
Weeds brewed to make a stew."
lines taken from my own childhood!
you have a wonderful talent that i hope you keep sharing! -
beautiful
i love this poem! its the perfect display of the american dream of a happy childhood! i love the wording and how they seem to play off eachother. it reminds me of my baby sisters and how young they are. its so sad that some children never are able to experience that type of childhood and are beaten or molested and are afraid to just go home. but in the words of my aunt pam "people who do that should be taken out and shot!" lol -
good
oh this is good. this sounds like the perfect
childhood, the kind everyone wishes for and you
described it perfectly. I loved the descriptions
and the vivid imagery, and the carefree feeling
flowed all the way through. good job. -
Baby, this is just wonderful, brings back memories of childhood, when days were simple and untainted, thanks for shaing this
