Sailing

One day I would like to see
A sunset on the oceans,
All flaming reds and purples,
It would stir all my emotions.

My boat would glide across the waves
And leave the land behind,
The sails all white and taut
Are powered by the wind.

I'd watch the sun sink slowly down
It's last rays shining through
A few small clouds on the horizon,
And disappear from view.

As the light began to fade
From the remnants of the day,
The moon appeared and gave me light
To guide me on my way.

A velvet blanket covered me,
Dark and inky black,
The stars made up the patterns
And kept me on my track.

All night I travelled in the dark,
Toward the early dawn,
The first soft rays cut through the night,
And heralded the morn.

As the sun began to rise
And brighten up the sky,
A brand new day, a brand new life,
It made me want to cry.

Shed tears for the life I'd left behind,
And also for the future,
Would I be happy with my new life,
New people, places, cultures.

I'd do my best, I'd make it happen,
I knew I'd be okay,
I'd go where my heart would take me,
And love each single day.

O, how I sometimes dream of sailing off into the sunset myself…
It’s a wonderful dream and I’m sure you will accomplish it. I love the background you chose for this particular poem, very fitting.
