of that fateful Tuesday, the eleventh of September.
It was a beautiful, picture-perfect day,
busy Americans going about their way.
Oblivious to what this day held in store,
an act of sheer evil as never seen before.
Thousands of people flood the Twin Towers,
From all walks of life and positions of power.
From janitor to executive, no one suspected,
in these strong sturdy buildings would need protected.
But at that given moment there was terror in the skies,
Nineteen hijackers on planes, as passengers disguised.
While down on the streets of lower Manhattan,
what was minutes away no one could fathom.
It was captured on video for the whole world to see,
but busy New Yorkers had a front row seat.
A thunderous roar, a jet flying too low,
crashed into the North Tower,dealing the first tragic blow.
Was this an accident? How could that be possible?
Our nation soon would find out terrorists were responsible.
Out of nowhere a second plane over taken by cowards,
used as a missile, thrust into the South Tower.
It became quite apparent these were men on a mission,
determined to put America out of commission.
I remember the screaming, chaos and ma-hem
would our country ever feel safe again?
It still wasn't over, there came another great shock,
the Pentagon hit, our world once again rocked.
Could this be declaration of third world war?
Our darkest day in history wasn't over , by far.
For up in the skies was flight ninety-three,
and our nation's capital was it's destiny.
But the passengers got wind of our "day of doom",
by phone calls from loved ones watching the news.
They banded together saying "Enough is enough",
regaining control would prove to be tough
Bold heroes united by a common goal,
as Todd Beamer stood up shouting "Let's Roll.
They shuffled and scuffled the terrorist reeeled,
as the plane went down in that Pennsyvania field.
The Twin Towers imploded south then the north,
it took the darkest of evils for our best to come forth.
Strangers became family from the goodness within,
bringing hope to my heart in the end we would win.
Yes, that morning they awakened a "sleeping giant",
but America rose up both strong and defiant.
United and determined with new resolve,
hunt down and bring to justice all those involved.
When the dust finally settled, while observing the loss,
in the midst of the rubble was the shape of a cross.
Two steel beams connected left standing in tact,
solidified God's presence to me as a fact.
It's been several years since that horrific day,
but it seems like yesterday in so many ways.
Those dark images seared into my mind forever,
overshadowed by the courage and honor...I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER!!!
Dedicated to the victims and families of 9/11

Very good
I really don't know what else to say. This was such a tragic day and so many lives were forever changed.

-
Toni
May we never be allowed to forget. But I fear with the new socialist government and the younger prancer around and seeking a greater revoultion that deadly day may be removed from history. -
wow that is a very very amazing poem. 9/11 was a very awful day in history and hopefully it will never be repeated anywhere in the world.

-
wow. great job! keep it up!
-
Absolutely stunning
This is an AMAZING poem.. I do mean amazing. You have done an excellent job honoring the lives of those who fell that fateful day. This is amazing
-
amazing
It is a good feeling to hear other accounts of how this tragedy affected them in comparison to my own. I was in a catholic school when it happened, and i remember praying, united with my school the rosary for the victims and survivors. Thank you for sharing -
thoughful
I can tell how passionate you are about this tragedy, and I like how you chronologically narrate the events that occured. This flows really evenly and tells exactly what happened while capturing every emotion the victims and surviors felt. I was smaller when this happened, but I felt the exact same fear and apprension that you decribed. Congratulations on you contest winnings =] -
Good
The author uses good imagery and maintains a poetic flow through the whole piece. A somewhat surreal over the edge mixture of emotions that speak of pride and hurt within the author's heart. Your word choice is good and the message sent is strong and emotional. You paint a picture with words that bring your memories alive in the reader's mind.

-
This is very well written. I too remember- even years before it happened. Just as Ani Difranco mentions in her poem about 9'11- 2 years before it happened I was in the main eating area and I couldn't believe how detailed the cups and napkins ect were on the printing indicating that they were part of the towers. I don't remember the exact detail, and I also thought about all the importance wrapped up in the towers and I said to everyone at my table- unbelievable that they keep all of American's docs and secrets, history and money all under one roof- imagine what would happen if politics in America were reversed- how much information and history and current control would be lost! (yes for some strange reason the detail in the napkins brought that out of me- the detail was so intricate and obviously cost a fortune that it just spurred this reaction of unbelief in me that America would put all their eggs in one basket so to speak.
However when I said reversed, I wouldn't have imagined something ever happening such as Sept 11. Unbelievable.
I do not think we really know the answers about Sept 11 and I do not think we ever will. I think it was senseless and I do not think the true confessors will ever confess.
Your cross analogy is so effective against the satan in the smoke that happened that day. That is powerful. Is it true?

-
Passionate and strong ~ to commemorate 9-11 this event with your poetic words will carry on for the years to come. From start to finish you have carried the memory very well.
Thanks for entering the contest, it was my pleasure to read.
Best of luck,

Wow...very different from mine, but I can relate in so many ways. I went to College at Calvary Bible College in Missouri and 9/11 happened during my Junior year. It was actually our "Spiritual Emphasis Week" where we have chapel every day and guest speakers....that day, we met for chapel and prayed in groups for 2 hours. I remember being afraid, confused, sad...but I also was so proud of our country in the days and months that followed. I still can't think about it without tears. This was the turning point for me as far as realizing how greatly I'd been blessed by being a part of this great country. It's made me fiercely patriotic. Sometimes I can't believe how far we've come since that day. Some people in this country act like they don't remember what happened that day. That makes me sad too. Thanks for this great tribute. And congrats on the gold you received for it...it was well deserved!

-
wow Toni...I haven't read any writes on t911 that is wonderful and detailed as this. you have done a wonderful job here! No wonder you have those beautiful trophies!!!
Mary

-
Wow, this one is a fine tribute...thanks for entering it
-
it is a fact that with the passage of time, the heart and such feelings become calloused and resistant to the flow of tears...this picturesque poem that you have assundered completely drags me back to the base of ground zero, and im sure that i am not alone in this. i am truely honored to have read your poem, and congrats on your previous trophies.
GOD BLESS AMERICA

-
Excellent Toni
Wow that was a day America became quite really. Pure shock of the trauma that just blind sided all of us. I remember but I wan't there. I saw it early that morning happening on the TV, we couldn't even go to work for we were glued to the TV wondering what was going to happen. You are right the goodness of many of peoples hearts glowed that day and for many days after in spite of the evil that was done. We are so lucky to have God. I can't imagine it any other way really. Also I though it was World War 111 too. I was so scared for me and everybody. I still get scared sometimes just to go places or even my children. You wrote this poem with such a huge heart with soul. I think you did an excellent job and you deserved that gold and many more for this one. Thank you for sharing your gift to write poetry with me.
Much Love

Good poem. Since I was only a little girl when the twin towers were hit, it didn't affect me nearly as much as it did you but now that I've read this I'm beginning to understand just how tragic it was. Thank you for entering.

Thank you for your entry
This made me cry. Just remembering the panick I felt. I live in Arlington, five minutes from the pentagon. My daughter was six at the time an in school. Her school was even closer to the pentagon. I was on the bus to work across town. What should have taken me 20 minutes to her school took three hours. I was in sheer terror. This brings back so many memories.
Good flow and structure. Very good imagery, heartfelt words. Rhyme and rhythm was good and appropriate.
I encourage you to keep fighting for the peace. Be an example and a light for God
God Bless
Tammy
Erase the Hate -
Wow! This is just super fantastic. It just covers alls the events and then some. It's written with emotion, powerful, descriptive. Wonderfully put together.
~*Snappy*~ -
This epic poem made my heart thunder as I gave way to a silent scream. I was front row with this happenstance. Lying in bed when I should have been preparing for school. Knowing somewhere in my heart of heart's that even if it were an accident, (the first plane) there was something very sinister about it all. Your music, the rhymes, the entire presentation is worthy of merit my friend. You spin a haunting tale, and the reality is it's realism. No one could possibly depict the events of that "picture-perfect day" as well as you have here. Whenever the day rolls around, each year since my heart and mind replay these events.
You have done a splendid job of writing everything as it occurred. It is sad that this is so etched in our minds. Your poem is of historic proportions and should be set in a children's book for them to know the devastation of history that befell us on September 11, 2001.
Your title tells it all. Then, your follow up with poetic words just loose the demons that exists in this world. God help us and allow us to never see a thing like this again.
Thank you for this entry my friend. You have weaved a poem that truly will never be forgotten.
Much Love & Respect ♥
Renee

thank you for putting it into words

excellent
I, too, will always remember. How can we forget?? An excellent write.
-
This was so amazing. Thank you for posting this. I am a very patriotic woman. There is so much I want to say about this. I personally had no family or friends lost on that Tuesday morning... but I to me that doesn't matter... my heart goes out to all those who did because it aws a senseless tragedy.
I have to say I was moved, impressed and somewhat surprised by the line "Let's Roll." He was a true hero and that is honestly an beautiful American story, his courage. It was so good to read this because recently a close friend of mine was talking about how the whole thing was a setup of the U.S. Government... That utter bullshit and it really makes me feel better to know that there ARE still people aren't twisted by the liberal media and can think for themselves. So thank you for this piece. It really touched my heart. God bless to you and all the families that were affected by that day.
-
Dedicated to courage!
A lot of detail in your poem. As I look at the picture of the plane on your border I am reminded that a plane in the sky is usually such a peaceful and pleasant occurrence. That has changed now for a whole generation of people close to this disaster.
I see your poem has received a great deal of exposure already so let me just add that I appreciated the reminder of some of the events of those days which do not receive as much mention. I refer especially to the mention of those passengers of the third jet which went down in the Pennsylvannia field. A most welcome entry in this contest. Jadon

congratulations on the trophies you have received with this write. it is very deserving of them. i wish you well in the new contest you have entered as well. viyanna rosemarie

This piece has brought back vivid memories of that fateful day. I remember being glued to the TV set...watching this horrific event unfold. It was indeed a dark day for Americans, and in truth, for the world itself.
Yet, in the midst of the chaos and confusion, the world saw the true spirit of the American people rise up. Heroes from all walks of life stepped forward undaunted by the danger, heedless of their own safety, they did what was right to help those that they could.
Terrorists may have been planning to take the heart from us, yet their plans backfired. They united us in ways even we didn't dream of.
Now we stand proud and tall...staring straight into the eyes of those who would be cowards and harm the innocent, knowing that no matter what they attempt to do, they can never break our spirit.
Well done with this piece Poet. You bring to light, again, the patriotism of "We the People"

-
Depicting how it happened on that dreadful day. People will hold the memories in their hearts tills domesday. There is no one who will not remember the fallen ones. Our family were just returning home from vacation when the news hit the airwaves. There is no one who will not remember the fallen ones. Very well written.

-
inspiring!
I remember this day too... it was my second day of kindergarten, and I was five. I too had no idea what was going on, and I was mad because I didn't even get to finish my peanut butter and jelly sandwich. A teacher came and read us a story, and our school had a bit huge lockdown. I heard the plane came through where we lived to get to New York... but our school shut down with the kids inside, we turned the lights off and closed the shades, and oh, I was only mad because I didn't get to finish my peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Whoo, how stupid was I... although you can't blame me, for I was only 5 and in my second day of kindergarten. How sad this day was... great write. I really loved this inspiring peice of work. It makes ME always remember...
~Pandy~

-
Told as only a poet can.
This has obviously been written by someone who lived the experience. A lot of us Brits felt it too and you can feel the experience first hand in this wonderful poem.

-
Wow....ouch.....that one hurts to read. But you depicted it so well. I remember being only 11 and not knowing what was going on. I wasn't afraid, but I didn't understand....
Aden

-
Where were we when this occured? No one will forget this day that seems to have changed out world and make us react so differently to events that happen now. Nice trophy winner already, great sentiments shared through your words.
-
wow...this is so poetic and sad.... its a real eye opener if you dont know what all happened that day... i love the part about the pensilvaina heros... this is one of my favorite poems ever.... you did wonderful

-
yeah, i was one of those people who actually dreamt about it a week before it happened. not aware that it was a futuristic dream, but i very intently remember the visions of smoke, people on the streets crying and wandering aimlessly, and the tall grey buildings. its almost as if i were in new york myself at that time.
this is a good poem of remembrance. thanks for sharing.

Excellent Write
I felt good in the beginning of the poem. Great tribute to those we lost. I hope you when that contest a increadible write for on the spot a Title. I don't know quite how to do that yet. I will always remember too first and last lines and Title are perfect. Oh how how sad I feel it took me back to the whole seen. For I will always weep of this day!! Thank you for dedicating it to their loved one's left behind!! Excellent write and picture perfect remembering!!

-
I don't know if I read this before, but this is awesome,great rhyme, full of emotion, brought tears to my eyes on many a verse. I remember exactly where I was and the shock I felt when I saw the tv cover the event as it happened.
-
i think you lived and we seen it
even though we all felt it
your heart wrote this poem

-
Very deeply intense.
My first impression is that I don't feel that anyone could have expressed that day any better. Emotionally it brought that day back in totality as if it was happening all over again. There is nothing awkward about this and nothing should ever be changed about it. There can be no favorite because all is so well written that it all has to be my favorite. The title Is perfect as is the first line. The last line sums this in the best way possible. This is absolutely a tremendously written poem.

-
Dear TT
I really don't think you or anybody else could write a short poem about this day in the life of America.
I liked it a lot!
How a group of individuals who claim to be enlightened could perpetrate this type of murderous treachery on unarmed civilians is beyond my ability to comprehend.
As I said, you did a great job on this poem.
I did not realize the correlation between the poem and the border till just now. I thought it might have been part of a travelogue or something. When I see planes coming in to our airport, I cannot look at them without thinking of that day.
Best of Luck,
John-Las Vegas, Nevada

-
Ok. You went for a storyline form which is always interesting, especially to readers who don't ordinarily go for poetry. The length of the poem though, makes the AABB rhyme scheme you've chosen a little much by the 4th stanza. You may want to vary your rhyme scheme a bit to keep it interesting. Also, there are some grammar agreement problems in a few places. Example:
"From janitor to executive, no one suspected,
in these strong sturdy buildings they would need protected."
"would need protection" would be the proper agreement.
The great news is you have your storyline out, and you know the direction and the build-up you want to convey so now comes the easy part, tweaking your poem, experimenting with different rhythmns and flows. You've got a whole month to play with it so I know you will come up with something amazing.
Good Luck in the contest.
John
-
Amazing!
Wow I really loved the way it was written, and it really told the story of how it happened. I absoultly loved it, I remember that day really clearly, sitting in my 5th grade desk getting mad because the teachers said that we weren't going outside today. No one ever told me what was going on until I got home, it's really sad how they never informed us, even though I was just a 5th grader at the time. But anyways it truely is a piece of work and amazing at that!
<3 Ally

-
This is a sensatinal piece, i too cannot put words to such a tragic event and to the words you have written. September 11 will never be forgotten and i'll never forget how my heart was completely shattered when i saw the images on the television and how those images will never leave my mind. You have written a fantastic poem to honor those that were lost and to the families left behind. Thank you for sharing

-
Oh my gosh I can't even put words to this, that was well amazing the detail the music (I like the music by the way) the end the beginning everything was falwless. I don't think I spelled that right, but I love it very nice. to be completely honest I almost teared up, but I kept reading and staied strong. That was amazing, I bet if anyone who was a victem or a family victem read this, they would thank you I know it.
-
this is the best I have read today
You did it wonderfully for those families
that lost love ones on 9/11
Bless you -
This is excellent...
Thanks for the entry!
*PEACE*
-
Oh how this brings back those horrific events
I spent many hours reading and talking to people going from memorial site to memorial site and even went to sites of propaganda that were claiming americans were behind it or Bush staged it or the planes were hijacked by the US and flown by remote control into the buildings. Everything every possible scenario played out on the net. But nothing or nobody can change the how real the death terror and tragedy that resulted by what happened. people jumping 75 floors to their death, and what people don't know is there were three times as many people you leaped to their death inside the building. People alive who were stuck togeather by the heat of the fire on their skin, womenflapping their arms trying to fly as they pummeled to the concrete below. Those above the fires who knew they weren't going to make it out talking to their families for the last time on the phone, and the stories go on and on. I read about one fireman who was ordered not to go in under the rubble because it was unsafe but he disobeyed orders and crawled in under the concrete chunks into a place a cat might have trouble getting into, who came out an hour later covered in sweat dirt and streaks of tears running down his dust covered cheeks because he wanted so bad to save lives and came out by himself. And does America today less than a decade later still remember
Not very well I don't think but I do and like your poem , I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER! Thank you for sharing.

-
This is a very powerful piece. It brings the memory back as well as the images of that horrible day. ITs one of those days you can remember what you were doing when you found out. Nice job on this. Thanks for entering and best of luck to you in my contest.
~~~Vampy~~~ -
great wrote!!! love it!
-
A beautiful piece to remember all who were affected. I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when it all happened, just like so many remember Kennedy's assassination. Reading this brought each frame back in blazing clarity. Great job, and truly deserving of Gold.
Wow
Your poem made me cry, it was so moving. I don't think anyone will ever forget that day. Remebering the victims and praising the heroes is not nearly enough for those who endured the tragedy that day offered. We can never thank them enough, but that won't stop us from trying. Great poem. -
This is great. I know others will enjoy reading it as I have. It is important that we remember the victims, so that we can keep others from the same fate.
-
this brought tears to my eyes. I can't begin to imagine the victims families and how it must feel. It was indeed our darkest day but like a Phonix from ashes we came together an neighbors and strangers and Americans. thank you for writing this. we must remember.
~APPLES -
I salute you
As an American & a New yorker. Unfortunately many seem to have forgotten. Not to get into politics but we are overwhelmed with left wing news media that constantly downplays that horrific day. But you, with this masterpiece have kept the memories alive
-
Just Awesome!!
Being a mother of a young Marine...I thank you from the bottom of my heart for expressing what I could not fit into words... You have truly brought us into the day. May we "Never Forget" that day and understand why our young children and loved ones have to leave us and finish what was started.. "Support Our Troops" no matter your view on the war,for they are our own "Over There".
-
Thanks for the nice compliment!!! I wish I could write on the lighter side but it is just nit in me right now!!!Thanks again!!!
-
good
You did a wonderful job of reminding us of the horror of that day. It is a habit of ours to try to set aside something so horrific that it defies explanation. But this must remain in the forefront for us. This cannot be set aside. You did a very good job of reminding us of this. -
The horror of that day was described very well.It was a terrible day in our history and will always be remembered.
This was a well thought out piece, but I did notice that some words did not ryhme in verses. I mention this for future reference. It does not take away from this piece at all.
Thanks for sharing this dedication to the victims and families of the 9/11 Horror... -
Good write
Great write,I liked it!That was a terrifying thing that happened I am so sorry it happened,I can imagine all the people lost and the building falling!Was terrible!Great write though!God Bless You1Lisa K Haslett Raytown Missouri! -
Sad but true ain't it? That some memories regardless of how painful they are will always stay with us. Must have been some really terrible moments to go through.Wonderful poem!
-
Standing Novation
WOW my hairs are standing up on the back of my neck. It was like i was right back there. Remembering the images the soundsand thinking how could someone be so evil. I know america is strong and that the president is wrong but one day that will all be gone. When god does away with this system of things and then jehovah the paradise brings. I liked your poem, I feel your pain. Wait for the day that god regains. -
You captured that incredibly horrible day perfectly! Great write! I remember I was in 7th grade that day...and our teacher came running in yelling about towers that were hit with a plane. we turned on the news and watched the story the rest of the day. we didn't do any work!
everyone says you'll remember what happened that day!
Again...great write, keep up the great work!
Amazing Grace My God Always give us strenght
All so sad for day it was on the television and after a while i couldnt watch it any more. like when they were reading the names of the dearly departed. I cried for days and couldn't even work with that fear that they would hit one of our bases. For I live in the Central Valley were theres a Big Navy Base. So you can imagine our fear here.Your write is so wonderful written to the fallen ones. I Loved it very much brought back to many memories. (Lisa) -
a good piece of poetry, though it is in need of some editing i feel, where you are using the ellipses, the right way is three dots ... - spill ink and twist me into the crazy shape of love...
-
Sadly accurate ...
My memory of 9/11 includes seeing the terrorist attack of the Pentagon on TV ... knowing my oldest son was at work there. The Pentagon was severely damaged. That day changed so many lives. He survived their unprovoked attack and later brought multiple air strikes to the terrorist homeland. -
This was very good, I liked the meaning behind it. I see only one thing that I didn't really like. I may be wrong, but the Pentagon was never hit to my memory. I remember it being a target, but was never actually hit. Correct me if I am wrong though, I never really keep up with the news, but of course I heard about it, how could you not. I may of just gotten some false imformation though.
-
WOW
That was really good and if you don't mind can I use it in a school report? -
I don't know what to say, because nothing I could say seems to match the intensity of this poem. Very inspiring.
-
really well written though one line grates on me
'an act of sheer evil like we'd never seen before.'
the world as a whole has seen, heard and experienced many atrocities and each country has done such things to another ... your words speak like a true american, which perhaps it takes a true american to resonate with
-
great write. great picture to boot.
i'm canadian, so we forget about sept 11 sometimes. (how could anyone ever forget something like that?)
i have my own opions and what not about what really happened and what not. they probably differ from yours, but this one caught my attention (you promoted it) and i'm glad that i've read it. it made me remeber what i have previously forgotten.
thanks for sharing
rich -
i am truley sorry if this offends anyone, its my opinion and you can take it however you wish... but i do agree, the incident itself was a grave, grave tragedy... those people didnt deserve that 9/11 was a tragedy the events that led up to it was stupidity
-
the loss of life in the twin towers incedent was amazing, and horrifying... but when you loose one life its a catastrophie when you loose that many... it becomes a statistic, because no human can mourn enough for every person lost. we didnt see the names of them on the news like when five or ten people die, we saw a number, a 'big' number, but a number all the same...
other than that, they made the same mistake they made at pearl harbour... a call could have been issued as warning as they were flying over 'restricted' air space all people needed to do was call for evacuation so at least the people who were trapped wouldent be... 20 min was all that was needed for alot of people to be o.k. but the american system pulled through again... just like pearl harbour
least we forget , old mistakes will be renued and occur once again... -
This was an amazing write one im sure that was not easy to write
for that day still burns in our memory.
Thanks for sharing and Godspeed to all.
Warm thoughts
good job
Very impressive and most accurate. Heroes are not borned, they only act when occasion arrises. In a sense, we, all of us are or can be heroes.
Thanks so much. Jules.
I hate to say this but sometimes i forget that 9/11 ever happened. but then i read things like this and so many memories come flooding back.
This was a really good write. i loved how it flowed and had so much meaning in it. It really doesn't feel like it's been five years since the attacks. It seems so much closer, but at the same time so much farther away. This was a really good peice, thank you for writing it and letting us all read it. God Bless. Bec -
Great write maybe one of your best. Emotional well structured great flow. Very descriptive and could feel the pain. In the stanza you are talking about Todd Beamer the last line should have the word that in it. Great job. 99/100. Thanks for sharing and entering my contest and Good luck. Melody
Only five years? Wow. It fears like yesterday...
This is amazing. It brings back those memories so sharply. I was in England at the time and a friend's aunt was in one of those planes...
