Katrina seems quietly forgotten
midst the September 11 events,
A disaster that was beyond
the scope of September 11.
It wasn't as "flashy" as
four jet planes being hijacked,
a force of man verses,
a force of nature.
It seems to me, that
we as a nation have said,
"A hurricane, there is
nothing we can do.
Ah, now, "terrorism" is
something we think we
can solve."
Instead of sending the
promised aid to those
who are still without
homes, who's families
were ripped apart by
furious waves,
We've chosen to forget them,
concentrating on those few,
September 11 really impacted.
Not to say that they did not
suffer a grave and terrible
loss.
We chose to pass measures
dedicated to National
Security, all the while
the President beats his
terrorism drum, taking and
removing rights of the
American people.
In New Orleans, along the
Mississippi and Louisiana
coast, lie the piles of
moldering, mildew infested
wrecks of thousands of peoples
lives, slowly on it's way to
becoming the largest
super-fund site in the world.
I ask you, "Where is the
justice for Katrina's victims?
Are they any less deserving
than those of 9/11?" Let's
quit the politics and
squabbling of who or where
and decide when.

Photo: Slidell, Lousiana after Katrina hit.
It seems to me that those people of Katrina and the communities that have taken them in have been left in limbo while the politicians play politics and our rights are being erroded by the war on terror.

Merry meet,
Thank you for your comments. Not that 9/11 isn't a tragedy but I'm really tired of all the "poor 9/11" stuff that is on tv and the radio while Katrina (other than CNN it seems) ignores the tragedy that is still occuring down south. Thanks again for your comments.

This is a great piece it has wonderful imagery. This seems more of a column than a poem but in that respect it is a great piece no less deserving of a prize than the other pieces in the contest, Thanks for entering
And you are SO right!
