To The King Of The Poets: Sadi Shirazi

When bitterness becomes more bitter not to be answered;
When problems force me to my knees;
When difficulties squeeze the bones
Then, Zephyr, start blowing from the North.
Come to my cottage
And bring glad tidings: Friends words.

Then over two wings of phantom,
Free from the thought of today and tomorrows,
Ill flutter eagerly to your Flower Garden;
Take shelter in the firm cypress.
You lay foundation of poetry
And Ill devour as much as I can.

Like a nimble gazelle Ill pursue you.
Ill peer into every side of your Garden,
leaping to smell your sweet ghazals.

Im drunk on the Love Elixir
You deposited in the words hearts;
Elixir changing my copper body into gold.

I wander in meandrous rhyme and rime
while you compose the most magnificent lyrics.

I am friendless, drowned in the stormy sea.
Youre a captain steering your ship on huge oceans of poetry.

As I am inserting Feeling in the awkward frame of words,
Silvery beams of the moon,
unique rays of the above world in the dark night,
Softly enter my room
While the moon is peeping me smiling.
A playful dandelion becomes a guest to my nightly privacy.
I hold her white body in my hands and whisper:

Little bride of cleanliness! Open your wings and fly to Shiraz.
Strew flowers on Friends shrine.
Tell him although he didnt linger longer in this world
His sweet words will remain forever!

Author notes

This poem is for Sheikh Sadi Shirazi. Hes one of the greatest and famous poets in Iran (My country). His books are Golestan (Flower Garden) and Boostan (Garden) which I used above in my poem. One of his beautiful ghazals is Love Elixire. As many of you might guess, his shrine is located in Shiraz.

Wow, I felt so special when I was writing this.. my weak pen and greatness of Sadi?!
Mr Mohammad Taghi Bahar another great poet in Iran- have write about him with his sweet words. Not bad to be shared:

Heartiest appreciations again for my AP auntie (mamad) for helping me correct this. She's always a great support to me

    This is a superior form usage as it displays the ability of poetry, at times, to draw images better than any "visual" artist ever could in their work! It comes off in a style, which really became popular in late 60's America, that is like a role of movie film, each still its own image while belonging to a needed whole...or, put another way, this poetry presentation is like a series of photographs which are taken of a common subject. There is no question that this particular creator loves the work of whom she is successfully honoring, not to mention, it displays the poet's own deft ability by being able to "end" this poem right on point and slaking its receivers (not an easy thing to do, even for the best of the authors, no matter what "written" format is being used to express a presentation)!

    This is truly a touching tribute to your favorite poet, Sheikh Sadi Shirazi. Just the titles of the book you referenced rang out with true notes of beauty. I love many of the Indian and Hindu poets. I salivate over their imagery and command of language. I liked the nature images in your poem, particularly the lovely flowers you praised. You convey many of the senses--in fact, I think all of them. Thank you for this heart-warming entry to the contest. Belle

    SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!1

    You know what, Massy, I am actually ENCHANTED by this poem of yours. I absolutely love Sheikh Saadi though I have only read his "Gulistan", he is one of those writers from whom I seek inspiration and who motivate me to do good. And you have written such a BEAUTIFUL tribute to him. I wonder how happy he would have been if he would have read these verses. And, yeah, I have also expereienced this :

    When bitterness becomes more bitter not to be answered;
    When problems kneel me down;
    When difficulties squeeze the bones
    Then Zephyr! Start blowing from the North.
    Come to my cottage
    And bring glad tidings, Friends words.

    I also feel that Saadi and some other inspiring writers come to my help when "problems kneel me down" . I feel as if they cast a healing spell on me through the magical power of their words. I share this feeling with you.
    The most impressive thing about this poem is its beautiful images especially the pictorial ones like " friendless drowned in the sea", "captain driving your ship on huge ocean of poetry" etc. They are THRILLING, ABSOLUTELY THRILLING ! As far as the mistakes are concerned, I was so struck by the charm of your poem that I didn't paid any attention on that side. Well, I'll see about them after a little while.

    I really, really, really, wish you will win this contest !
    ( Insha Allah )

    Hail the King of Poets, Saadi Shirazi !

    P.S : Massy, I have only read a few poems by you and for me this one is the best of them. I loved it !

    Honestly, I think you are the most unique poet I've come across. You have this great way of saying things in ways that I would not think to say them, but that make sense and work very nicely with your poetry. This was an awesome poem, thank you for telling me about it.

    Well honestly, I'd have to say that this was a nice piece of poetry. While I very much enjoyed reading lines such as:

    Then Zephyr! Start blowing from the North.

    Elixir changing my copper body into gold.

    While the moon is peeping me smiling

    ... among others, there are places throughout the poem that felt kind of rough. I understand why, and really appreciate your effort here. I too, am not familiar with the poet of your inspiration, but am curious to know what a "ghazal" is. Good luck to you in the contest. I enjoyed reading your poem.
