A Child's Pleas

Missing image
Who gave you the right to say
I can't live
Was it something I did

I am just a tiny being
growing here inside
I have nowhere to go
nowhere to hide

Just because I'm little
doesn't mean I don't have rights
I am just too little to fight

I did not ask to be born
during your passionate storm
You could have taken safety measures
but all you could think of was your pleasures

You say I am not a life
until I am so many weeks old
But I can tell you
that when your sperm
hit the egg, I was one day old

Who are you to decide if I live or I die
I am just a being with feelings inside

I can hear that you don't want me
I know that you think that I cannot hear or see
Don't you know this hurts me desperately

If you don't want me
I am pleading please
I am sure that there is a family
out there who would want me
as their own, and love me tenderly

So before you let that doctor in
with his knife to
cut me out and
take my life

Just remember that this could have
been you, if your mother did not choose life

So let me ask again
who gave you the right
to say I can't live
I never did
So please reconsider this

Author notes

I wrote this poem from the unborn babies aspect. I also wrote Oh Lord A Mother's Plea the aspect from the mom. I am not taking sides I am writing poetry. Please read both poems before you judge me to harshly.

    This is a lovely poem..
I'm first of all fascinated by the mix of both rhyme and free verse together but wasn't really sure how that would turn out.
You were right about this sounding really similiar to my poem but I'm glad you directed me here .. it's an awesome read

    Hard-hitting.

I was truly touched by this piece; no mother should use abortion as a way of avoid responsibility.

    Brillianty penned, my friend.

I think that the child's point of view is the best aspect to write from; we must speak for the voices who cannot be heard.

This hits me deep and hurts. I am totally and utterly against abortion and I will forever be. Adoption is a fairer way. The only circumstance I would have an abortion would be if I was to die if I had the baby and that is the only reason. I can't respect those who just choose to have an abortion because the one night stand went wrong.

Many thanks for the entry! I really enjoyed this poem! I agree with you on so many of the points, although it is often hard to really paint things so black and white. Obviously i respect that you say you aren't judging, which is wise, as many who have made this decision (some friends of mine included) have realised their mistakes, and need none of our judgements.

I did not ask to be born,
    during your passionate storm.

To me this says it all. It blows my mind that people can be so casual about such things, almost as if it was another form of contreception, which would have taken very little time actully use. Are we really this lazy? Murder of convienice. how harsh.
I did enjoy this, although the reason you havent placed is that i was looking for a two sided arguement, and a level of critical thinking about society that i don't feel you have employed. If you had related this issue to society at large, then perhaps you could have been in with a good chance! But thank you for the read!

i think this is an excellent poem. it's so sad that some many people will just throw away the life of an unborn child, never even givig them the chance to take their first breath

I really like this poem. You're an excellent writer. I really like how the rhyme isn't forced, it sounds very natural.

I totally agree, abortion is cruel. But I also think there are two sides of the story, just like you said. There ARE circumstances when it should be allowed. The outlawing of abortions would be a terrible thing to do, but I still find it cruel. It's a situational thing.

I wish you the best of luck in my contest.

    Peace and love

To judge you harshly for a poem written from the child's view would be cruelty. I can honestly say I felt a strong pull from my heart as I read further into this piece, almost telling me that all those who abort their children are monsters, which they technically are, for killing a life, whether our government and scientists say otherwise. What do they know about life, really? To them, we're just people meant to be pleased and to please. That's how I see it anyway. You've written a fantastic piece, and those who say otherwise don't know what they've just read.
    Sweetest of dreams! ~D

    Tawk,

I dont like to get into politics with most things, but abortion is one thing I do feel strongly about. I do realize that there is a story that goes along with every situation, but I agree that a baby is alive the moment it is conceived.
I liked your poem, it spoke to me, even if you didnt mean to take a stand.

It's very hard to agree or disagree with this poem. It's well writen, but in a teenage pregnancy, you can give up your whole life for this child or.. well, you know. I don't even agree with those types, so, in conclusion, I agree with this poem.
