heartaches war

every ones spirits fell
those that have fallen are bid farewell
all war depends on that fact
until they finally come to a pact
all war depends upon it an unbending force
without mercy, without compassion, without remorse
but that is no man that i know in this world
war among us that is what is unfurled
bringing those innocents alongside
you have not lived until you've almost died
artillery and guns going off around you
one among you falls from a mortar apart him blew
you hear cries of triumph and dismay
not one of your fears of death do you betray
with a sturdy pulse and a deepening heart and eye
every one depending on you "i lead until i die"
war is courage cloaked by fear
in a ditch a mans check drops a tear

This is a very nicely done. Really scary because its true. I have a brother in Iraq, he's a marine. I liked the flow and the rhyme of this poem. Some of the word choice could have been better and some of the flow even though I liked it, it was kind of thrown off by some punctuation that was needed. other than that. Pretty good. Good luck and thanks for entering.

Good POV you have written from. Good imagery I can almost feel like I am experiencing these horrible events as I read it. Thank you for this entry.

    Poetically powerful

with wonderful images. As a man oftentimes scared even in peace I can relate. Having been through the first Gulf War was a huge learning curve for me.

Thanks for sharing, best of luck
