Planting Roots

We’re planting roots together
Or so that’s what he said…
On that summer day
I was really just mislead

The feelings I had for him
Ran deep down to my soul
I thought he felt the same
And together we’d grow old

I found out what he meant
Pure as the driven snow
We were simply planting
Bushes in his garden to grow

He knew my feelings ran deeper
Than his very own
He thought that telling me those words
Would keep me from going home

In fact they did you see
For the remainder of that year
Then the truth came out
We’re just friends is all I hear

No growing old together
Even the roots didn’t take hold
Of the bushes that we planted
In his garden to grow

Why is it we can't tell when we are being lied too. I have been, what I call a sucker, far too many times. It made me hard. Made it easy for me to find struggles from nothing. It leads us down so many roads until we just say Ok. We just accept it without knowing why. I wish you peace and love
    Excellent !!!!!!!!!!!!

A lovely comparison, the garden and your allusion to life, the roots, literally and figuratively. It is sad when you spend time nurturing a relationship, tending it carefully and then it never takes hold – the necessary, final connections are simply not there. It leaves one questioning, what could have gone better? Should there have been more water, or less? Was the soil prepared enough? Or a thousand other questions arise. Sad, really, but then, maybe it is for the better, though the painfulness of the truth cannot be dissuaded by any amount of rationalizations. It is better to know this now than to have entered into a deeper relationship and then had it die off. Your exposition, whether drawn from reality or from another circumstance, is a powerful one. Whatever the answer, I hope you find a relationship worthy of the nurture. Blessings and best wishes, ~richard
