Author notes
After hearing of his untimely demise, I literally woke up this morning with this tribute pouring out of my mind. So had to get pencil to paper before it was lost. I know lots of people thought him strange and radical at times, but I enjoyed his show and his enthusiasm for life. He truly enjoyed his work with animals and trying to educate the world about them and Australia.

Bamablues,I think that is neat. I hope some day that Terri and the kids will find the strength and the time to read all the emails and other things from everyone around the world. I am in. Keeping my poem here so someday they may read mine too.

Wtchr, I totally agree. In all the interviews that I have seen him do. I don't think one person called him Mr. Irwin. It was always Steve. Thanks for your comment too.

I like your acrostic tribute to Steve. I don't mean to be presumtuous in calling him by his first name, he was just that kind of person. I think he would have insisted.
-
Head Witch, yes it is a shame, because we will not get to see him on any new adventures. but a blessing that he went doing what he loved most saving and educating all the world about animals.

MIdget, umm thank you for your comment. I am sorry to hear of your Uncle's demise too. I am sure he was a fine tarmac tasting old gent. If in his mental state the road tasted of chocolate, his move to be missed by the truck came to late. So go sit in a quiet nook and get yourself started on that tribute of a book.
Thanks for reminding us all to keep the humor in all aspects of life and death. I am sure Steve would appreciate it. If you can't laugh at yourself why should anyone else?

Steve Irwin was awesome and its both a shame and a blessing I guess that he died working with what he loved the most. Lovely tribute.

my uncle was mental, quite seriously he was, used to love the taste of tarmac and as a result ultimately was squashed by a 7 ton truck whilst licking roads. where is his poem? the difference is my uncle didnt get paid truck loads of money for dicing with death, he didn't take his 3 month old son along and to quote a newspaper (kinda) he didn't get too close to a truck and molest it (swap truck for penguin). I ask again, where is his tribute?
well, I have one ' my unc was a silly old fuck, got squashed to his death by a truck, he couldn't be told, to stay off the road... I think I might write him a book'
good tribute by the way. -
wonderful expression what more can i say
