The Great Crusader (In Memory Of Steve Irwin)

The lives you touched are so immense
pure words are not enough
We watched in awe, hoping that
time would never call your bluff

The wild was your stomping ground
from which you'd never stray
We saw snakes, lizards, crocs...even
deadly birds of prey

You showed us many species and
how they played a special role
The eco system found a friend
who gave his heart and soul

An inspiration to many
our love shall never cease
That nature called her son, may it
bring your family peace

The world blows a giant kiss, while
you sing your final song
Loves sweet wind shall carry you
to the place where you belong.

Our dear angel has fallen
on a blue-green barrier reef
Though we knew this was your calling
many are filled with grief

You are the "Great Crusader" now
we sit back to reflect
Make a promise, and continue to
love those that you protect

Farewell for now kind spirit, your
legacy will live on
Though you met an untimely end
From you, strength will be drawn

The gentle waters lay their claim
forever you will roam
The song they sing is bitter-sweet, for
their champion is home!

In your own words,"full of fire!"
your job is never done
"Don't muck with it mate!" it's just...a
new journey that's begun.

croc hunters my idol but i must say hes a bit limp wristed for being taken out by a pussy ass fish.and even at that you must admit that 44 is a fairly ripe old age for a croc hunter.nice poem but i must add i beat everyone with 6 feet under legend.there really was no reason to point that out except for me to flaunt my greatness.i always win.lol

thanks for sharing this tribute to Steve Irwin. i think you have shown how you feel about it.

it possiblky would have been even better if you had instilled some more of his cheekiness and humour into your tribute - but i guess sometimes we can only say what we say.

What a great tribute, well done!
Steve held such passion for what he did in his work and he had a unique ability to share that enthusiasm with us all! Just think how exciting the world would be if everyone’s career consumed their attention as passionately as Steve’s did.

It is wonderful to see all the tributes to Steve Irwin - I so enjoyed him and his programs...it almost felt as if I've lost someone I've known for a long time. This is a beautiful poem and reflects his essence of passion and energy, yet also touches on the deeper things. My deepest sympathy to his family - the world has lost a big heart.

I was a big fan of Steve's from the very beginning, when i first saw him i thought, what a nutter, which he undoubably was but he was also a lifeforce, vibrant and full of fun, someone who had fear and respect for the creatures he dealt with.My sympathy goes out to his wife and kids
Well written from start to finish, tells his story in a few paragraphs, very well done.

He has recently recorded a documentary about his life, family and the fight for wildlife and a excerpt was shown on TV here in Oz last night. The love and pride for his children, his wife, and what they had achieved and his plans for the future - oh dear it left me so sad.
