Just One More Day To Hold You

Just One More Day To Hold You

What would I do with one more day,
searching my heart for what to say.
First I would pull you close to me,
wrapped in your arms so tenderly.

Thoughts wandering of happy days,
that fill our heart like sunlit rays.
Whispering what is in my thoughts,
the happiness your love has brought.

I would look deep to see your pain,
how your heart was filled with rain.
I would hold you through the night,
to keep you from your fateful plight.

I would plead, please stay with me.
release your pain, please set it free.
Do not listen to death's dark call,
because I need you most of all.

I'd let you feel, new life begin,
our baby grows, feel love within.
I would make you see, it was wrong,
to kill yourself with death's sad song.

If I could hold you just once more,
show you what life is worth living for.
Then all these years of pain would leave,
I could still hope, could still believe.

Since then, happiness is fleeting,
so much longing, so much needing.
Still searching for how love should be,
for one more day, come back to me.

Author notes

A personal story of losing someone I loved to suicide. And how every since, wrong choices have led to so much heartache. But I have my faith as I struggle with my life. There is good in my life too. A hard poem to write.

I’m sorry that you lost this person I liked the rhyme here, this was a very well written piece with good flow. I liked the way that you personified death with ‘death’s dark call’ and ‘death’s sad song’. There was some hope which flowed from your clear love/friendship for this person but also a great deal of sorrow in their death.
    Best wishes

    I like this piece.

I agree with speakingup4kids. Sometimes it is so hard to explain to a person how you feel. But you did a fine job on this piece. It is very well done.

I'd let you feel, new life within,
our baby grows, let life begin.
I would make you see, it was wrong,
to kill yourself with death's sad song

I was doing good reading this until I got to that stanza...
I can feel your pain so much in this piece and that stanza just confirmed it for me. You do such remarkable writes, as usual, you have pulled the reader in and held them hostage to the very end of this piece. Thank you so much for sharing your talent!
    very nice job!
