By The Sea

Turning yet another page in my book
of life, a new chapter begins today
for I'll soon become a wife.

No more daddys little girl and no
more teddy bear,  a woman who has
found true love and her life she
now will share.

Tears of joy and tears of pain and
so many mixed emotions,  each teardrop
falls down silently filling up the ocean.

Doubts and fears I pray disappear before
I say "I do".  Visions soon engulf my
mind of a much older me and you.

On a porch I see us your hair has
shaded gray, sitting hand in hand
as the wood swing softly sways.

An old book lays upon my lap a journal
I have kept.  Filled with all my secrets
and all of my regrets.

Wrinkled and arthritic hands grasp my
treasure tightly.  Years of penning
and spilling my soul was something
I did nightly.

Glancing through the chapters I found
this to be true.  My book would not
be finished if it hadn't been for
you.

I seemed to be so far away stuck in a
dreamy state,  when I heard you call
my name and say "better hurry we'll be
late".

Realizing all at once that we were meant
to be,  we ran together hand in hand to
our chapel by the sea.

I wouldn't say it reflects my "reality" more of my hope. I based this write on my parents who have been married for 40 years now. They have had some bumps but need each other more today then years ago. Let's just say marriage is tough these days......

A lovely poem. It is nice to read a poem of happy love now and then. Does this reflect your reality, I hope? I wish that I had such a relationship.

This is very interesting. The sea is a great image and metaphor and it suggests so many takes and possibilities. I have read this poem over at least three times. The sea itself becomes a powerful presence. This is a young couple starting out, but it could be an elderly couple approaching the end. A very fine poem.
