when pain became too much for you to bear.
They say our ending is ordained from birth
although it is unknown to those who care.
You closed your eyes in sleep and, without sound,
you left this troubled life you knew was past.
Your spirit soared aloft where, heaven bound,
in angels' arms you found sweet rest at last.
I know it was your time to leave us here
and pray you will find peace and happiness
amongst the loved ones there, who hold you dear
and welcome you with love and tenderness.
If you're now happy, Brian, we will not mind
this awful pain in us you've left behind.

about you poem
You probably would rather say anything you have to say in an email rather than in the chat room. I am willing to talk if you want to--You know that I am always ready to talk with you my friend. -
I love your poem Joan. I am sorry for your loss; I had wondered what Brian looked like and thank you so much for posting his picture along with the poem. Thanks so very much my friend.

My Son, God took you from this life on earth

Mend Quickly My Friend!
Oh Joan my friend!
No wonder you've been so quiet. I'm deeply sorry about
your loss. Your poem is worded wonderfully, your heart
is certainly in it. I'm glad that your good friend Hugh
is with you on this. Hold on to your happier thoughts
of earlier days. God be with you during this dark time
of your life. Write Joan Write! It helps with the
healing and when I can, I'll be doing the reading.
We love you dearest friend, my thoughts are with you.

I am so sorry for your loss-we never plan on burying our children and yet so many of us have had to. I sympathize and empathize with you-may your memories of Brian only serve to bring you smiles and peace.
You've written a beautiful sonnet-despite the heaviness of your heart and it ministers to those who have the opportunity to read. Bless you~

excellent
We must think alike Joan, I also envisioned all the family gone on ahead awaiting him, when life is at it’s hardest, a poets soul is truly at it’s very best and strongest. This is truly clearly evident in your amazing poem here.
God Bless one and all and may the knowledge heaven await’s with all those gone on ahead ever assure you all.

Beautiful and heart gripping too
It grips my heart to revisit the reality that Brian is gone. Yet what a BEAUTIFUL memorial sonnet to Brian. I think this is the best sonnet you have written thus far. The love you have for Brian can be felt throughout this "Sonnet For Brian".
-
OMG
I feel this way too much. A beautifully done tribute Joan & Hugh. There is such serentity to it, it breaks my heart to read it. Blessings, Gypsy
-
You work well together, keep writing!
This is really sad and really well written. -
Bravo
A finely and very deftly done sonnet! Bravo! -
good
oh this was so sweet. you did a wonderful job
of speaking on a very sad loss.
to accept that it was their time and to think
of their happiness where they are shows a
love that is true. -
How difficult this must have ben for your to write Joan. Written with a Mother's love, unconditionally, he has gone to the next stage of his journey knowing that he is loved and always will be.
Bless you Joan, you and your family in your physical loss but Brian will always be in your hearts.

Very moving. Well written. The rhyming was perfection and the rhythm flowed smoothly.

almost a specialist in tributes... warm write... and genuine emotions...

Dear AJ, I'm just on my way home from Bingo with Betty, she has let me use her PC to comment on your lovely poem about Brian. He was such a loving caring man, always ready to do anything for anyone. He will be missed.
I see Heath has already commented, he rang me and told me you posted it. And don't worry about fluffy, I'll make sure I keep Fluffy away from him.
Love Hine.

Dear Joan,
A lovely poem for Brian Aunty, we are all going to miss Brian, he was such a lovely cousin, still is as far as that goes.
Love to you.

-
Dear Joan, your sonnet is very expressive of your loss, you have my condolences. In the midst of this pain you have found some hope. Your form is lovely.
-
Dear Aunty Joan,
Hine and I are just SOOO upset for you and Uncle Bob and so sad about poor Brian although Hugh says he'll be much better off now without any more worries and, best of all, no more hard yakker (work) and he says they have great pubs in Heaven!!.
I'd write more but since my last poem, Hugh won't let me alone on his computer any more and is censoring every word I write.
By the way, that awful "Fluffy" of his turned up again the other day.
Please accept our deepest sympathy in your loss and our love to you both and to Michael, Shaz and Julie.
Love, Heath. XXXXX -
Heartfelt
Sonnets are quite difficult to get right, but this one hits the spot in more ways than one. It is a very heartfelt piece of writing. Sorry to hear about your loss.
Dimitri -
a good piece of poetry, in life there is death, it the natural ending of our time here, i hope heaven finds him well. spill ink and twist me into the crazy shape of love!
-
Well written. Excellent, thank you.

Beautiful
This is a beautiful tribute to your son. I am so sorry for your loss. No mother should have to go through that. I am sure that your son is smiling down at you. He will never stop living in your heart. Thank you for sharing this with us. I know how hard this had to be to write. This is truely beautiful. -
Exquisite
I'm not acquainted with this form, so have no critiques to offer there. Simply put, this is a sad and loving tribute to your handsome son. The pain is evident and the hope in eternal life shines through magnificently. Lovely words and you are in my thoughts as you go through this very difficult time. -
This is really beautiful. I'm so sorry to hear about your son; that must be a really hard thing to go through. I think it's wonderful how you put this in sonnet form...it makes me sad that LiLSheep is using internet slang to comment a piece that obviously means a lot and is clearly very emotional. I think that your son loves you very much and probably knows how much he meant to you. Good luck with everything and God bless.<3

Wow you have written so well your inner most pain and put it to paper. I have lost parents but to loose a child must be the greatest pain of all. Great piece. I trust that you will have many great memories that you will cherish and that will help you as you go through the dark valley. All the best

There is a poem by Charles Hanson Towne, entitled "Beyond the Stars," that will be a great comfort to you in your bereavement.

Dear Bea,
I feel so honoured that you asked me to collaborate with you in writing this sonnet for Brian. I know that there is no greater pain than that of a parent for a child who dies.
~~~
"Yet if, in Jesus' arms, they're now at peace,
free of the trials of living and all care,
knowing our love for them will never cease
until, in turn, we go to join them there,
it makes the pain for us less hard to bear."
~~~
You know that my heart is with you and Bob.
Love and hugs, XXX Hugh.
