Mas Nes

When ash and chalk are thrust
from the same earth

no better vessel
for no truer message.

Burned into my mind's eye
is that one image,
fist thrust heavenward,
blazing eyes lowered, shut,
writhing mic restrained
beneath rhythmic conviction...

Preach me passion,
sing me to understanding,
for both go hand in hand.

Only the good die young,
only the few die legendary.

Only the visionary dies eyes open.

Author notes

This piece is written about Robert Nesta Marley; I am a big fan of his music, and his message of One Love- that of anti-prejudice, delivered by one of mixed race and one who had experienced both true poverty and true wealth -is something that stays with me.

Wow, such utter brilliance and beauty in this poem. The title really drew me in and I was not dissapointed with the poem, at all.

    blazing eyes lowered, shut,
    writhing mic restrained
    beneath rhythmic conviction...

Those are such wonderful lines. They speak to me. They breathe. I really like those lines a lot. The entire poem is wonderful, though.

This is such a wonderful song.

No, he cannot touch Ziggy. And the Melody Makers were just Ziggy's band- his brother Stephen, sister Cedella and half-sister Sharon.

Wow, I'm jealous! He died before I was born, but I'm still a big fan of his music.
And three of his sons, his daughter and his step daughter, lol- Ziggy, Stepehn, Cedella and Sharon were in the Melody Makers, and Damien Marley has a solo career, although I'm not such a fan of his music.

well i dont know how much bob marley i see in this poem really, but it is still good as i read it as just a poem about life, rather than inspired by someones life. i liked the closing lines the most.

It is wonderful indeed. I will be checking back for those added parts. The following is my amazing Marc style...

    Preach me passion.

    Only the good die young,
    only the few die legendary.

You are so good at this. I cannot wait to read your stuff a few years down the road. You are a rare treasure...Trina

    Robert Marley, eh?
Hmm...why did I guess you would use someone like this?
If this poem was added to, it would be amazing.
As it stands, it's not bad.
    Luff yew.
