Table Of Contents

My story has been confined to the pages of a book

The words flowing softly from it like water from a brook

Each day that I am forced to live is an additional page,

Another scene in my life’s act that is performed on a stage

Each chapter is filled with joy and pain, depression and love

Filled with the stories of a small boy, some are undreamed of

From the abandonment of a father to the love of a mother

The story of being forgotten because of a reckless brother

The chapter of how this boy found a new man to call Dad

Then one day he dies and the boy wears tear-stained plaid

A chapter of depression during the middle school years,

Describing the pain that caused a mother’s tears

After middle school comes a chapter on redemption for this boy

Where he finally learns about the offer God’s ultimate joy

Following the path that the Lord had set many years before

Jesus knocked on this boy’s heart and he finally opened the door

But the book doesn’t close there for the story goes on

A new page is started at the beginning of each dawn

This is my story which is being engraved onto my soul

By the One who shall forever and ever be in control

by Sharcu (Tim)

Author notes

Poem inspired by the title. Description in the poem is personal and are actual events that happened... I guess this actually would be my "table of contents" if I had an actual bibliography written about me.

Thanks so much for reading

Such a personal look into your life, we are honoured for you to share this with us...I scan see this piece was written a while back, I didn't know you then at the point of writing this ...I can see how you have blossomed since then, through other writes that I have read of yours...there is a sad episode in your life, which you have expressed so creatively...the third stanza made my eyes smart...you have much in your heart to give out to the people who mean a lot to you and I'm glad you opened up the door to your faith in God, he will look after you when life lets you down...

Nice rhyme scheme and flow, I wish you all the best for the future and hope we may catch a glimpse of that too through your writings...congratulations on winning the bronze, much deserved...

    Much love to you bro...

    Great & Good going

Really you got this really greatly! The way you started it, quite too general and old but at the same time I found it quite too novel!

The rhyme was really out of questions, flawless and hence, it kept me inside the peom-story throught, until I reached the dead end of the poem

Suggestion: Try keeping the size of font used, a little less than this

    Applauds!

    Just great

An inside look at the poet...great stuff. We are all the sum of our history. You wrote well and with emotion. This is a fine personal poem that shares your soul with mine, and all the readers of your work.

    Profound

Amazing! You've created a masterpiece by simply sharing your life. Your words are profound in meaning and prolific in emotion. I'm sorry for the painful experiences you've had in this life. Sadly, you'll have more. But it's obvious that you have the ability to learn from each and every one of them and it's only strengthened your faith.

This is a wonderfully descriptive and expressive piece. You are a remarkable young man with a great talent when you hold a pen. Don't EVER stop writing, Tim!

    ~Lori

Oh, Tim, that was realy sad story, but, I saw that soon you wil graduate. Congratulations. I am happy to see nice young people able to overcome problems and depression, to go ahead and to write so nice poetry. It was realy nice written, sound so simple but it isn't. It flows nice, rhyme is included great, leading us from line to line, capured our attention to the end. The best with your work is your posibilities to be faced with your "Table of Contents", to accept it even when it brings only pain. I wish you a lot of luck in your future studying, life, love and many good lights on your pages.

    Inspiring

It's refreshing to read of such youth and open acknowledgement of faith. I enjoyed reading the story and as it unfolded, I got the impression that there is so much more to come - such joys and such strength. I applaud your willingness to share such personal sentiments. Take care.

This is beautiful, sad and full of emotions Tim. I have to tell you once again just how far you have come since you decided to start writing in rhyme! I remember when all you wrote was free verse and I thought that was wonderful, but you have really progressed to another level in your writing. This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing it. I'd also like to thank you for your patience of steel when people like myself bug you for answers all the time. You are always Johnny on the spot and that is so appreciated!

This one should have garnered more than just a bronze. it read like pure gold to me!
    Blessings and hugz,
    Frog~

P.S. now can you teach me to write free verse? lol?

Johnny on the spot? Maybe I'm too young to understand that one.

I need to learn how to write free verse myself, actually Looking back at all my old, free verse poems, I'm amazed at how many trophies I was given with them. That's why I'm rewriting so much of my poetry just because I know I can make it better by rhyming. There are only a few really great free verse writers on here that I really respect for their ability. If I were to try and write free verse now, it wouldn't turn out that good. Once I get better at my rhyming and all of that, I'll probably head back to free verse and try some more complex forms.

Anyways, glad you liked this piece. Your comment and applauses are appreciated

Tim I don't know how you pulled this one off but you really did a wonderful job. It was the smoothest read from beginning to end. And the rhyming is awesome. The story of your life touched my heart so! I am very happy you found the Lord after all you experienced. I'm sure your Mom is proud of you! A really meaningful write. GBY

A delightful testimony about your life and coming to the Lord. Your faith shines through in this piece. I especially like your last two verses. It sums up your poem beautifully. Well crafted and a most enjoyable read. Congratulations on winning the bronze trophy. It is well deserved. Shelley

It would be nearly impossible for me to write a poem that's about my life that doesn't involved a spiritual side in one way or another. Before I entered no one used the title and now I see two other people used it. Good luck in judging

Something about the title 'Table of Contents' struck a chord with everyone's spiritual side it seems. lol It is sometimes strange to glance over your 'book' of memories and re-read the events that took place in your life. You learn a lot and catch a lot of details that you missed the first time that can often help you later in life.

I really enjoyed this poem..it is a really neat way to describe your life....I see how you got this from the title. Great job, although I wish your life could have been a little eaiser for you, but God had it all planned out just the way he wants it.
