I lay against this rock,
My gaze falling effortlessly to waters surface..
Searching the waves for a sailor
3000 miles away.
A merman rises,
Watching me as I try to sense
The love of my life.
He swims closer,
Sweet articulate words forming,
In an attempt to charm me.
I stare out at the sunset
And wonder if my poet will return.
Slowly doubts are overcome with fear
And desperation.
I cling to the merman,
And show him the love I feel for my sailor.
He is none the wiser,
Thinking my love for him
To be true.
But I cannot love another.
I cling desperately as the insecurities
Of my troubled mind
Overflow,
Drowning me effortlessly.
But as he starts to sink,
Taking me below the water’s edge,
I see sails.
The sight of my love’s ship,
Lifts my heart,
And allows me freedom from this man.
I swim full speed for the boat,
And am welcomed on board.
I broke the merman’s heart..
Left him for another man.
But I know for certain now..
My sailor is my one and only..
I cannot fall in love,
With anyone
But him.
Author notes
It's a pretty crap poem compared to the others.. Needs a lot of work.
