Let's Make This Last A Little Longer

So tonight is it, my dears
With tomorrow's rising sun
High school will begin
And summer is officially done

I beg you, savour this last hour
For I predict the coming 4 years
Will be filled with backstabs -
Betrayal - broken hearts and tears

So here's to warm summer evenings
Long vacations, naive love, and beaches
Homesickiness, fireflies, family
All the little lessons life teaches

I just want us to be innocent
Please, perhaps this is our last time
To look back at all our memories
We may be leaving them behind

I can only hope with my heart
That we won't change and go seperate ways
I love you, my friends, with all I have
And I will forever, to the end of my days

Author notes

Yup. True story. Even though I stayed up into the might to write this sucker, the loss of sleep is worth you guys

This is a great summer poem. The dread of school - four years ahead - scary. The list of summer things was effective. Very sincere last two stanzas. Some typos stand to be corrected - for instance "High school will being" - for the rest use spell-check.
