lost in the radiance of your smile
broken by the moonlight
littering the ground, with sprinkles of light
that boldly caress the places, not sheltered by the leaves
You are the moonlight. Or is it the tree?
shielding, and yet pervading me.
Your light bleeds across my skin, and I shatter in your essence
I filter into the cracks -like water- seeping into your soul.
I have no form with you -no structure-
We lay intermingled, a slave to whims of the winds
that blow dappled pattern’s
natures lace –sculpting designs- upon the thirsty ground.
Dewdrops ripen upon your breasts; your brow; your sinuous thighs
dripping into me, and nourishing the fallow soil
that sighs beneath our once corporeal cores
We fly free
shattering, in cataclysmic ecstasy.
I gather the pieces -like fallen stars-
return them to the source
with eternity, lingering on my lips
The midnight whispers hear my plea
soak -into our breath- pulse through our veins
consecrating love
amalgamating hearts

Author notes
I know you said only finished poems and I’m not 100% sure this is finished… but the truth is I was running out of time to decide, and I’ve ill the past few days so I had to take my chances. I had planned to stick to just one of the verses you offered, but I’m afraid that some other may have bled over into my work, however the one I based this on is posted below. When I read these verses they really spoke to me and I plan to read more of this poets work when I get over my bronchitis et al. Such beautiful words and I hope I’ve written something that’s even close to worthy for this contest. Thank you for the inspiration. Patti

I travel along the edge of your thoughts,
and my shadow falls from your white forehead,
my shadow shatters, and I gather the pieces
and go with no body, groping my way...

A very lovely and elegantly sensual piece of writing, Patti. You’ve interpreted the chosen Paz-fragment in a creative way and made it your own, yet I can still see how your poem relates to his words. I love the title of this poem as it opens it up, setting the scene for the “no body”, the no form, no structure that is to come and is the central theme of this poem. I like the images in the 2nd stanza where the lover’s shadow becomes your light....seeping into your very being, becoming one in body, soul and heart – shattering like “fallen stars”. I also want to thank you for editing the poem in time – I really did not want to skip over this very lovely poem. Thank you for entering this sensual piece! And hope you're better soon!

Love is often formless and unfinished....like our lives and our poems. I hope you are feeling well soon. I do appreciate the image of gathering the pieces together...like fallen stars. Very pretty.

I chose #3, but yes #7 did influence this too. I'm not sure what happened to my comments (pasted them in when I originally posted, but I guess they got lost somehow) thank you for letting me know they were missing. I’m just glad that I saved them with my poem. I’ve been having coughing fits and depending upon how much oxygen I’m getting my thought process comes and goes. I should be asleep right now, but I felt like I was suffocating so I figured I’d pop online and read a few poems, and hopefully settle my nerves a bit. I was glad that I did since I needed to attend to this poem. I’m rambling a bit aren’t I? LOL Well I’m off to read a bit and hopefully sleep will find me soon. Patti

'With eternity
lingering on my lips." What an awesome vision. MAy the words of love and life be that vision.
