The woods

The dark is broken by peering nocturnal eyes,
of woodland creatures stepping on the rustling leaves,
sounds of hooting owls amongst some buzzing flies,
the wind howls but nothing disrupts this almighty breeze.

Foxes force large twigs to crepitate, causing fright,
Tree roots dictate where mice build their homes,
the woods are off limits to humans through the night,
it is owned by animals creating their domes.

The air is fresh, raindrops gently flow off tall trees,
causing soil to damp, destroying habitats of mice,
the mist is luminous, seen above shrubs and leaves,
birds of prey with beady eyes search for bugs and lice.
