I have this gift
or maybe it's a curse
when people feel upset
I feel worse
I take their pain
and place it in my heart
I live their memories
even though we are apart
I am an empath
negativity is all I know
I can't write about happiness
when it's a thing I rarely feel
when they get mad
I get frustrated and mean
I can't handle these feelings
so alien and unseen
I get so confused
I cry and scream
what's wrong with your life
what's happening
she'd walk in the room
I'd start to cry
she couldn't hide it
she knew she couldn't lie
my heart told me she was troubled
I had to know why
I know I have this gift for a reason
but give me some time
my heart's bleeding
it doesn't bleed for me though
it bleeds for you
for all you've suffered
the shit you've been through
I don't worry about myself
I know I can get through
but I worry and cry
when I feel such sadness
coming from you

I am an empath an tend to feel negative energy off people it's rare I feel the good ones unless the person means alot to me and this is to a friend who has been feeling depressed and has in a sense started to drag me down too coz they wont let me help them

You're probably the first person who see's it the same way I do. It can definitely be a curse, but you can use it to your advantage, and to other people's advantages. People who can truly empathize, in my opinion, are best therapists and counselors. But at the same time, you need to be able to control the emotions that comes with that.
And, if you surround yourself with happy people, you should be able to empathize with them also!

this is a great peice, very descriptive and expressive with clerly presented content. strong peice, I can imagine that being an empath is one of those things which is both a gift and a curse and you showed this dual nature well (even if you did seem to focus more upon the negitive aspects-but I guess they are just more pronounced in life generally)

this was amazing, I can do that to except I can also feel happiness. I don't think it's the same thing as empath but it's close to it. When I'm sad and I find out why the person is troubled I help them, then they feel better and it makes me if that makes any sence. Awesome poem, it was really sad and really good.

Let me just say that I know where this piece comes fron in your heart. One mans gift is another mans curse or are they really both just one and the same? You have a rare heart poet one that is unjaded by life, I hope you will always keep it so.
