This Child in Prayer

So still and serene is she,
With wonderment I watch.

Hands folded ever so gently,
Eyes closed as she is deep in thought.

Never have I ever seen anything more beautiful,
As this child in prayer.

Author notes

I took this photo of my granddaughter Jessica and I just wanted to share it. It inspired me and I hope it does you.

    Great Poem

Sometimes when I am in church and I look over to see a child in prayer...the image is so pure and innocent, that it's like watching an angel pray. Thanks for the imagery, great poem.

It's very simple and clean. It has a sort of childlike feeling, which is good, since that is what it is focused on.

I think that makes it all the better that it was inspired by someone you knew...or better yet related to! Great picture by the way, it really brings out the feeling in the poem

I thought it was very sad that a poor innocent little girl has been brainwashed into grovcelling in the dirt, doubtless on the orders of her parents. How truly tragic. Thank you for bringing this tragedy to my attention. The peom's ironic tone is very clever. Anyone might think it were genuine! Very well done!

It was not posed shot, she asked what the bench was for and I told her. She knelt down and did what she saw a child statue do. I could not resist the shot. The full shot was much better.
