It is the gentle in the man-
The kind that rises when you stand,
The one that bows to kiss your hand;
It is the gentle in the man.
It is the gentle in the man-
The kind that opens up the door,
The one that leads you on the floor;
It is the gentle in the man.
It is the gentle in the man-
The kind that walks you to your car
When night reveals each twinkling star;
It is the gentle in the man...
The kind that watches you get in
There safely, and is watching still
As you drive off in moonlight's chill-
Yes, he's the kind of man to win.
This man so gentle is so rare-
The one that helps you in your coat
And holds your hand inside the boat,
But I refuse to doubt he's there...
The kind that shudders inwardly
When you reveal a single tear,
Who stops to bring your heart some cheer;
Yes, he's the kind of man for me.
It is this strong and gentle man
That pulls you close against his shirt
When he can see that you've been hurt;
I want this strong and gentle man.
It is the gentle in this man,
The kind that softly speaks each word,
The one that loves each beast and bird;
I'll have him if God says I can.
Lord, give to me this gentleman,
The kind that gives respect and grace,
The one that has a pleasant face,
And I will thank you for this man.
And if I find no gentleman-
If you would never choose to give
Him, Lord, for You I'll ever live,
Because I want what You will plan.
Lord, You were such a gentleman,
For when You spread Your arms so wide
Upon that lonely cross and died,
You offered love to every man.
I know more now than I once knew-
The gentle man I'm wishing for
Will help me seek to know You more,
And point my love right back to You.

Author notes
On one side, these are just the ramblings of a romantic heart...
But on the other, I believe God has the power to make such a man.

Excellent
Excellent. Your poem harkens back to a simpler, more gentle time. Sadly, that time has been swept away by the winds of a lost and selfish generation. Our moral compasses no longer point to Christ, but rather to the whims of a fallen and corrupt society. Keep up the good work. -
Well, I probably wouldn't let just ANY guy kiss my hand- I was thinking of a more specific kind of man on some of these thoughts.
Sadly, however, this type of man is rarely heard of nowadays... It's a lot for a guy to live up to, and many guys today are just too lazy to work at it (, I think).
But, many of the things I mentioned I've seen done by someone. For instance, it was my associate pastor that made sure I was in my car, and that it was started, before he drove away himself- I felt he was being fatherly.
But, whether it's a father, brother, friend, or closer someone, it's still nice to be cared for this much! -
Great write. I like the allusion to gentleness being a form of strength. I especiall like the way this ends.
I've fascinated by the kind of man you describe. I have had some experiences, though, where many woman today feel seemingly uncomfortable with a man kissing their hand, or standing as they approach or leave the table.
But I suppose there are a few women that would appreciate a man like this one here.

Well, I wish I could say that I'm completely pure, but sadly I cannot- I have but one gift left untouched... and that's the one I'm resolved to save for a man such as this... if he is willing to take me.
I've been forgiven much- I can only hope such a man would do the same...
And if God should ever give me this gift, you can be sure my eyes will be spilling with tears of joy! -
Wonderful
We still exist though we are a rare breed. I have often wondered if pure women still exist nowadays. It is sad that even in the church nowadays they are hard to find. Keep believing in God and you will find him. They do exist for I have met a few. This is so touching and wonderful and makes a sweet and special prayer to God that I believe he will answer one day -
Yes, believe it or not these men exist! There are men out there--Christian men--patterning their lives after Christ. It is good to pray for a righteous man. This poem is so beautiful with its sweet refrains of faith and rhymes of trust and hope.

I remember seeing my grandpa helping my grandma into her coat... My dad said that he was a "lady's man". I couldn't help but think I'd like that.
There have been a few other occasions where I've observed most of the behaviors that I've described in my poem...
And, with each one, I couldn't help but feel very protected, cared for, respected, and maybe even admired... and that's a nice feeling.
And, yes, I do believe they're out there... but I also believe they're quite rare... And that I need to be a certain kind of lady to get such a man.
I'm still working on my part.

I loved it. Probably due to my living in the times when these things were taught. Guess I would be considered square by the youth of today but when you are taught these things while young, you just usually live by these things. I'm so glad to hear any youngster who wants a little conformity in life instead of all the thrill that seem to be so rampant today. Looking for what you describe in your poem will help ensure you a happier life, that I promise you. So, one may call you square. So what. Live up to your ideals. Read the one I just submitted in a contest.."Self-Esteem". This is something I feel you have to have written such a wonderful piece. You seem to understand that love is not a game and I applaud you for it and all you wrote.
