Angel Dust

He opened his wings so far
i thought it must have meant something.
but i learned that fallen angels
can't be brought to heaven again.
I gave him a taste
which he couldn't refuse,
but he sent me to hell and back.
now i have long storys to tell,
but nothing in the short term
to fall back on.

So along came the quiet time
where we didnt speak,
we just sulked about.
and when the words finally flowed
they came with tears
which flooded both our worlds.
His wings were dusty,
and i inhaled to become
dizzy and sore.
He swore it wouldnt happened again
but that angel can't come 'round here, no more.

his lips are poison
and his eyes can cut
like a dozen swords.
he can rip you apart
with a glance
and embrace you, as nothing before.
he's a broken man
fallen angel,
with a kiss like heroin.
and i am low low low
withdrawing from loving him.

he seemed so god sent,
but things sent by god
cause nothing but pain.
walking through his bloody world
listening to devils singing loud refrains
of "once you come here, you can never go home"
and home to me is now invisible.
it seems so empty without his visits.
it seems so pointless without that dark embrace.
the tears aren't flowing
and i try to force them, just to feel him.
because i arrived in that place
home is an illusion.

his lips are poison
and his eyes can cut
like a dozen swords.
he can rip you apart
with a glance
and embrace you, as nothing before.
he's a broken man
fallen angel,
with a kiss like heroin.
and i am low low low
withdrawing from loving him.

His body is less like a temple,
more like a cheap motel.
like the one that we visited
after we were reunited
and renewed our bullshit vows.
disappearing wasnt in the cards
this time around we would love forever.
but angels lie more than devils..
stuck in my agony, with his smile
behind my eyes.

I can drink my tea
to heat my cold heart once again.
but the whiskey makes it hotter
and it freezes faster in the end.

I can let him go
but always wonder where he's been.
His soul is an endless pit
and i have fallen in.

This is very well executed and though long, nothing is overstated. The imagery is especially strong and everlasting. The lines that stand out for me are: "but angels lie more than devils," and 'but the whiskey makes it hotter/and it freezes faster in the end." And the ending is also very poignant. Excellent write, and hope all is well in "Maniac Land." Best wishes and regards, always.

.... I adore the poem, more than anything you're written before, including my old (old) favorite of yours 'Foreward Bound (For Me)'. Not so hot about who it's based on, of course, but I view this as being pretty fucking accurate as to who he is and what he did, etc.

I adore the 'lips like heroin' thing, I have an odd obsession with lips being other than what they seem.

The last two stanzas are the ones I adore the most -
    'I can drink my tea
to heat my cold heart once again.
but the whiskey makes it hotter
and it freezes faster in the end.

    I can let him go
but always wonder where he's been.
His soul is an endless pit
    and i have fallen in.'

All in all an excellent poem, and I looooove it.
