With one swoop of our insensitive wings?
Why can't we as humans learn to care
Look beyond selfish feelings, put others before ourselves.
Why is it we soil good relationships
Always looking for better and greener pastures?
Why can't we see how much we are cherished
Recognise what is good and put in more effort to save what we already have.
Why is it we don't care if we are breaking hearts
That when love falls to the ground, we happily trample on the shards?
Why can't we hold out our hands, reach out and touch
That person who loves us and give that love back.
Because we are human and humans are never happy.

Rich, you are the guru! I agree with you!

Hmmm, never happy? Let me see....Happy to me is doing something I enjoy. Being with a friend, sharing my thoughts, finding out something I didn't know before, being relaxed, making a person smile. In todays world it seems people are in some sort of dream state or something and not really trying to understand what is going on. What I do think is that if a person wants something they need to give something or do something to make it be so. If we just want without acting in a meaningful way to get what we want or try to accept something to fill an empty place that isn't what we really need in that space we are just creating more problems down the line. Love and happiness? What you won't share, you won't have. Peace.

Agh, thanks so much for your support and kind words.
I can only write what is in my heart and I do want better for me, for my loved ones, my future children and everyone who knows they can do better but have gotten lazy for whatever reason, it's just to easy these days to only think of yourself, don't you think??
It just breaks my heart to watch the news these days and i want to make a difference but words and poems are all i have so this is the best i can do. expressing myself and my feelings in the hope it touches people and perhaps makes them stop and think, even if just for a second! -
this is such a strong piece fo writing, i love the message and can relate to it personally, as i think all people can. keep on writing, i love this!

Human nature, is a controversy in and of itself. I do not think that you are wrong in stating we are all in some form or fashion selfish. Wether it be selfish for ourselves or selfish for another. I believe sincerely if things were to go back to the way they were so many years ago we would simply not know what to do with ourselves. I think that both an over abundance of technology and an over dependence on technology have also played a major role in making us more aloof from our own kind. Ahh but I could go on and on and on ...
This is a great write hun and your POV is right on. I think you wrote from the heart as the piece is dramatic and enlightening as well as emotional to the core. I think your talent sincerely shines through here. -
I do stick to my morals and refuse to be swayed but I can't help but wonder how others can be that way, and i'll never stop trying and asking and telling people to change, cos everyone has good in them and if i can touch one person, i'll have achieved something and caused someone somewhere less pain.
I can't help it, i'm just like that! -
good
we make who we are if the others choose to be that way its up to you to keep yourself true don't be swayed by their actions show them how it is realy done xx -
Yes and sometimes humans give their heart, get trampled and then watch their (once loved one ) go through hell...Society has turned very self centred, and no-one cares for their partner like they did 30+ yrs ago...
Sad really..More sexual partners does not equal more satisfaction for sure, unfortunately those greener pastures are stil riddled with prickles, youve just got to learn how to avoid them..LOL.
I'm glad I'm from a different Planet..LOL.. -
Bekabulwinkle, you've hit the nail on the head!
If we could all just treat others how we'd like to be treated in return, or is that too simplistic? -
I hear you! i know exactly what you are saying and although, yes, it's very cynical and extreme, people are not like they were towards each other 50 years ago, and therefore, shouldn't we be shouting out, trying to stop this rollercoaster now? I think so, before it gets worse or too late.
Humans are definitely selfish by nature, but what happened to neighbourhoods! how can someone be mugged on a train and people just watch! How can people be sooooo scared they can't help others? It's that fear that scares me the most, cos without other people's help, we've had it! -
Thanks for your comment. I've not met anyone who isn't fundimentally selfish and puts themselves well above anything or anyone else.
Even the good people, i think EVERYONE has some selfish nature and so therefore, i think i have touched everyone in this poem. I truely belive everyone on this planet can do better, treat others kinder, show more neighbourly spirit, look out for others or else, there'd be no children dying, people homeless, children living in abusive situations, hopelessness, etc., while others drive around in big fat cars!
I do appreciate your comments though, all the same! look how fired up you got me! ahahha! -
too many people are unhappy with themselves therefore can never be truly happy with another person...so they keep searching and discarding, blaming others insteading of taking responsibility for their own happiness. it's a 'throw-away' society in too many ways
selfishness is rampant.
your poem speaks for many
-
i think what you fail to pick up on here is that we are all different each finding happiness in different things. while im sure much in this poem can be related to by many there are some people out there who are the opposite of what is written. would have been nice to perhaps have read from that point of view also.
-
Good! this is a truism, unfortunately. however, let us hope we can teach our children to be better than human.

'Why is it we soil good relationships
Always looking for better and greener pastures? ' I thought the whole stanza beginning with those lines was amazing and holds so much truth...People are greedy and that's why we are always looking for something better, and you portrayed this very well. It's nice to read a poem where you can learn something from it - 'Recognise what is good and put in more effort to save what we already have.' I thought this was wonderful, definately worth an applause. Have a nice day

How true. How true. Thanks for sharing your poem. That is exactly how I feel when these endless romantic cycles persist in peoples lives including mine. I've shunned the urge for a relationship with another for quite some time. Now I've healed and venture forth into a new one. Wish me luck as I am scared of what might and might not happen. Going to just go with it and not over analise or criticise. Yip. One step at a time. Thanks for your poem. Meant alot to me.

humans are never happy.. coincidentally almost everyone i spoke to today had the same good.. as long as the grass on the other side is are only only motive we shall only be momentarily happy.. happiness is a state of being not a moment's glory..
well written and thought out..

Hi ,the thing that is sickning is humans know when they are hurting someone but the majority of them just keep on doing it, we could talk for hours on this subject, man is not getting better but worse day by day,one day he will just wipe out the whole of the human race, sorry to be cynical but it might just do this planet a big favour. good write and so true, Di

Very Good
You have conveyed a very interesting and debatable message here. Humanity is unconscious to the world and it's own spiritual essence. If we all tried to be a lot more conscious in everything we did we would understand the term unconditional love. I like this poem, you have written well on a topic that plagues me about the human.

Why is it we hurt the ones we love
With one swoop of our insensitive wings?
Why can't we as humans learn to care
Look beyond selfish feelings, put others before ourselves.
It's really a very though-provoking and extremely well-executed write. A brillint piece of work, emotionally as well as literally! Keep up your pen. God bless! -
This piece was thought provoking on several levels...first it is so true that this has become a society of disposible relationships and that is a true tragedy....marraiges used to last a lifetime because divorce was just not an acceptible option. So people were more careful in their initial selection, and when problems came up, they worked through them. But on the other hand, I learned something following my early years of dating...I spent time in relationships that never made me happy, because I felt beholden to a guy if he fell for me, loved me, that I was obligated to love him back. When I finally realized that I didn't owe my love to anyone just because of their feelings for me, my relationships got alot healthier. Introspective piece, well done!

Thanks for your comments! i love when i write something that provokes people to comment and react!
i am slowly losing faith in the human race as a whole, to be honest, people have few if any moral standards anymore!
Makes me sad!!!
-
Great
Because we humans are greedy, selfish and everything else all mixed up. There are wrongs and rights, goods and bads and we got them all spread out accross the whole world and it sucks!
Great poem. I often wonder the same thing. It's quite sad how some people are so self centred. But I guess all we can do is teach the next generations better. -
Speak for yourself. I am not human. Not in the slightest. I was created in labs. By sick bastards.
However, you'll find that humans are suprisingly easy to make happy. Take pop idol, no-one with any level of free will should find that entertaining but they do. Go figure. -
i like this poem as have had a hard time with my husband cheating on me i love him with all my heart and have given him chance after chance and still am now i feel that the love i have is fading and i dont want that we have a young child to x i want it to work but im worried he will hurt me again xx like its says we are human and we are never happy x i only wish to be happy and not go through any more pain x

8 old applause
