Crayons and Mascara

I look back in photo albums,
I place my fingers on the pictures.
I remember when I was younger,
And how I ate crayons.

The photos are in color,
Because it wasn't that long ago,
That I was in Mommy's makeup bag,
Looking for her mascara.

Dress up was always fun,
Especially when I was five.
It's even more fun now,
Since I can fit into that dress and tall heels.

I used to have to climb on the counter,
To get that cookie bag.
But now I'm reaching for my car keys,
And grabbing lunch on the way to work.

And mistakes used to be so cute,
And an "I'm sorry" would do,
But now they can haunt me,
The innocence is gone from my face.

Growing up, I realize,
I still want to be a kid.
I want to color with crayons on paper,
Instead of using mascara.
