Years a ago we walked into the silent town,
With countless dreams and love unbound,
Walking by the railway platform is where I found,
The bench.
We sat there talking to each other and anticipating our bleak future,
Love had conquered our hearts, thus the choice we made was to depart
Breaching laws and breaking hearts of those who we loved,
And making our own ways away from those we shoved,
Our first acquaintance, our first home, amidst unknown streets was,
The bench.
Spending our time sitting there it felt like home,
Sometimes with tears sometimes with fears,
Sometimes with smiles and through all climes,
Sometimes filling the air with chuckles,
Sometimes sitting and breaking our knuckles,
Sharing secrets, sharing stories, just the two of us and
The bench.
Soon we sat there not just the two of us but three
The little girl who completed our family
Just watching her sleep in her world of serenity,
The two of us shared the joys of our hope
We moved into light away from the past grope
Feeling the comfort of each others’ love and that of
The bench.
Then the day arrived when heavens decide
That one day we all are undone
And to dust is where we return
For mercy I did cry
But no one heard my plead but
The bench.
The bench
Standing right there till the end
Unnoticed, like a silent friend
Sheltering, Listening and comforting
Like the guardian angel
Today I sit by the bench
Isolated in this silent town
The only other thing I could cry on
It stands right here protecting like a mother’s womb
It heard my stories, my sobs, and my pleas
Hope then came smiling and in her eyes
I saw the will to live on without sighs
In a moment all that was seized came back
Silently we hugged sitting on our sheltering shack

Things testify and comprise
memories rarely to criticize
yet they mark where
our hearts did share.

This is a beautiful poem! I loved reading about it! It made me think of what I could hold onto. This is truely an amazing poem. An amazingly sad tale.

shoobedooobe
that is so beautiful and rings so true to me.maybe hits a bit too close to home and has me left with nothing but an absolutely biased opinion with which to offer comment.i dont mind if you dont and even if you do i still dont.what do i have left to lose?nothing, not a single thing at all. -
A few lines here and there didn't flow as well for me (such as the line "Love had conquered our hearts, thus the choice we made was to depart", but overall it was great. I LOVED the 6th section, the way you started with "the bench". It was different but awesome.

Reading this...
The two of us shared the joys of our hope
We moved into light away from the past grope
Feeling the comfort of each others? love and that of
The bench.
...reminded me of the many gropes I have given and received on park benches.
This was very nostalgic for me.
