on torn and tattered sail,
In search of love that's given free,
a quest I feared I'd fail.
A brigand born, my main sail set,
my ship was tempest tossed.
My anchor chained to past regret,
I felt all hope was lost.
But then one cold and wintry night,
my heart took feathered wing,
And soared in free untethered flight,
where gull and seabird sing.
Borne high above the raging storm,
my life began anew.
I found a harbor safe and warm,
for God had sent me you.
A harbor safe the leaward side,
from grey and stormy sea,
So I'll anchor there with morning tide,
and ne'er again sail free.

I enjoyed this write. It is beautifully written. No strong wording - soft as a finger-tip touch. There is also the message of love [Love] that I can appreciate. I'm honoured to have read this. FransB

Becky,
Thank you for your kind comments on my poem, "A Harbor Safe."
I wrote this piece many years ago as a tribute to a woman I consider to be the love of my life. The relationship didn't work out, but considering the life she has led since our breakup, I'm a lucky man.

I love the subject, very cool way to incorporate facts of life into nautical stuff, which I love. I especially thought the rhyming scheme and rythym was unique, and significant to the poem. I like the title. Great work!

I too have a love of the sea....which is quite strange considering I came from the mid-west.

A lovely tale of lost love, with astounding rhythm/rhyme, it's certainly a sing song read.
A beautiful tribute to the memory of this love from your past, thanks for sharing

Sassy,
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my poem, "A Harbor Safe."
This was inspired by the woman I considered to be the love of my life. Sadly, it didn't work out, but in spite of the pain and heartache it caused me, I wouldn't trade that exerience for anything.
It was she who allowed me to experience the full expression of this thing we call love. Even though I am now an old man, and a happily married one I might add, I will treasure her memory until my dying day.
Such is the eternal nature of love.

My goodness this is awesome! A very lovely lost love poem. So romantic and heartwarming.
I think the very first stanza was beautifully penned..
I sailed through life on angry sea,
on torn and tattered sail,
In search of love that's given free,
a quest I feared I'd fail.
Your imagination is very impressive!!!
I sailed through life on angry sea,
on torn and tattered sail,
In search of love that's given free,
a quest I feared I'd fail.

Oh my! How creatively and wondrously you have penned your inner memories of the lost love of your past. Loved the effect of using the sailboat as your guide for this piece. That was a fantabulous feat within itself as it takes real talent to be creative and think outside the box. Keep penning dear!

Dichotomy
There appear to be a couple of typos
for God had set me you.
should perhaps read
for God had sent me you.
and ner again sail free.
should perhaps read
and ne'er again sail free.
________
One is struck by the chromatic dichotomy between content and context where the former writes of love and peace while the latter shouts its message to all and sundry with little leeway left for relaxation ...
perhaps you might like to review font and background choices for this composition ?

Thank you for your review of my poem "A Harbor Safe." I appreciate your suggestions and the pointing out of the typo's. Funny, I read it through a number of times to catch typo's and somehow overlooked these. A sign I'm getting old I guess.

You write from the heart. Many people have lost at least one love in their life. The memory stays in their mind, but still the heart beats on. to you.

Thank you for your kind review of my poem "A Harbor Safe." I wrote this as a token to the woman I consider to be the love of my life. Sadly, the relationship didn't work out. But I still think of her often.
It's been over twenty years, and for the life of me, I can't seem to put that memory to rest, even though I am married to a lovely lady whom I love desperately.

I like it
I liked it even more when I read that the love didn't last - somehow it makes the poem more poignant - beautiful images of the water air and earth, with love as the fire. Thank you.

Very Touching Write!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was amzed to read that you wrote this over 22 years ago!!! It is such a fresh read for me this afternoon. I am sorry to hear of your health issues and pray for your complete healing through the healing blood of Jesus Christ. By his stripes you ARE HEALED!!! Proclaim it in his name out loud everyday it WILL bring results!!!!! Anyway this is a peaceful poem as I read it I felt that you have ome to terms with the fact that God had someone else for you and your life has flourished far beyond what you could expected because of his wisdom in it. Thanks for sharing this today it gives me hope as I have never experienced that "great Love" but have experienced a love far greater the love of CHrist and I, like you just wish fo my words to touch the lost and hurting and help bring them to salvation...~~Toni~~

Thank you for your kind remarks regarding my poem "A Harbor Safe." I'll try to return the favor and read some of your work as soon as I have time.
I am flattered by the suggestion that I will be successful as a poet if I continue to write. Since I am a 66 year old man currently struggling with numerous health issues, including cancer, I doubt literary success awaits me in the future. I publish my creations here as a witness and a testament to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. I believe He is the true source of what I write. If I can touch one soul through my work and lead them to the gospel, I am content. Thanks for all the praise.

Thank you Melissa. I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I wrote this poem many years ago to celebrate the love I felt for a young woman whom I considered to be the love of my life. Sadly, that relationship ended and resulted in a lot of heartbreak for me. It took me years to recover, but God is faithful; He led me to the woman He wanted as my life long partner. God knew better than I what was best for me. Thank you once again, and God bless.

I love the symbolism! I love the imagry! I can see it all. I can feel the emotion too. I really like this poem alot. I'm really glad you advertised this! Otherwise I wouldn't of read it!
I hope you keep writing this well! Also, I love the meter! I love how every stanza is even. It's suprisingly crisp compared to this new aged poetry people are doing. Anyways, good stuff! -
