That Kid
Jordan
I was sitting in class one day.
When I heard this sound
that made me look all the way around.
I saw this kid in the back.
He panted and moaned
and all the time he groaned.
But no one noticed
No one cared.
I was all that stared.
His lips curled up
and his eyes grew tight
I guess to block out all the light.
He was really in pain.
I suspect his heart did race
As the sweat collected on his face.
The kid raised his head and slammed it down
It was all in one big rush
And then…all was hush.
The teacher didn’t speak.
The children didn’t chatter.
They all wondered, “What was the matter?”
I don’t know who he really was.
His name I cannot tell.
For, I did not know him well.
So this kid who was in the back…
the one that was obviously ill. The kid,
who in the corner always hid.
The one I should have helped.
Shall remain unnamed
and I am to be blamed.
He’s gone now;
Time of death unknown,
because this kid was always alone.
Author notes
I wrote this waking up at 2:30 in the morning while sick. So it's not that great.
