Fly the foul fiend

Fly the foul fiend

Why’d you make that devil? Lord let me understand
That sneaky, snaky Satan, that got so out of hand?
Without that evil devil, I could be doing so well
Oh Lord, please take that devil and send him down to hell.

I went to church on Sunday. Down on my knees to pray
I want to be a good boy for fear of judgement day.
But first thing Monday morning the devil makes me feel
That it would be a good idea to lie and cheat and steal.

My wife’s a handsome woman. I’ll love her ’till I die.
I’ll cherish her and keep her and never make her cry.
But when that devil comes along and feeds me wine and beer
I’m game for fun and fun and games with any girl that’s near.

Oh Lord, they told me you were good and would take care of me
And yet you let this devil loose to be what he would be;
To find out all my weakness and to tempt me in my mind
And I will have to burn in hell. It seems a bit unkind.

Why did you make that devil?
Why did you make him bad?
If I thought you made mistakes
I think I'd think you had.

Why did you give him money
Lust, avarice and sin
And sex and drugs and rock 'n roll
And whisky, beer and gin?

Why did you make that devil? I just don’t understand
You must have known before you did the trouble that he planned.
Oh Lord, I hate that devil and all his works as well
Yes Lord, please take your devil and send him down to hell.

Author notes

Seems to be developing into a series. This one has a tune but the chords are too complicated for me to work out.

Phil, another very interesting expression or muse. do we take it int the literal or the implies, do we take it from strong beliefs or none. (rhetorical questions of course). so much to be taken, the choice to do our own right or wrong or the see the stairical side. well done and extremely amusing. image and visions

    nice

The devil is always great subject matter. It would be great to see the other side of the coin. Why one might hate or love their God of choice, it would throw bias out the window.

To me it's not the devil that makes a man comit evil but him and his soul that create the hell that is surounding him, From
Whiskey to cheating we thrive on being the first in line to fire the bullets and the last to take the blame, A very powerful
And brilliantly penned poem thank you for allowing me to read and comment on your work..

This is a grat poem and I thouroughly enjoyed reading. Most peoplke can't be so honest with themselves (first and foremost) and others about the temptations and the evils that surround our world. BRAVO!

Oh my! This is something else that you have written here for sure! I don't know what to think of it. It sounds from the pleading tone in your words that you're having a hard time in dealing with temptations that are around you in the world. I think that we all have our own struggles to get past. i think that you did a good job of expressing yourself though. So thanks for featuring this so that we all had a chance to share your words and feelings with you!

More conclusive proof that god does not exist! Cheeky and despite a few punctuation problems, a very charming little read.

He is quality control. The wolf that makes the herd run, getting their cardio-vascular capacity up. You seem to have identified some areas for personal improvement...(teee heee hee) I sympathize! Truly though, those appetites, unrestrained create havoc in lives. I had a friend and coworker who did some prison time. "The first thing you do to survive, he said, was to put all your money into the most valuable contraband, go to the weight room, make friends with the biggest guy there, and give it to him! Followers of jesus were instructed to keep their hearts clean, and pray to bind the devil by the power of christ. (Kinda tha same thing)
