A Soldier

A Soldier,
Says, 'Good Bye'
'Don't Worry,
Daddy, will be home soon.'

A wife and child,
try to go on,
A day doesn't go by,
Without a thought of their soldier.

But the worst has happened,
A knock at the door.
A soldier stands with his head down.
I am sorry to say, but your husband is gone.

A suicide bomber,
is the cause, they said.
Your Husband is a Hero,
But all she hears is he's gone.

A daughter to raise,
all on her own.
A child on the way,
That soldier will never know.

That Soldier is a hero to us,
But at home he is...
A brother, A son, A husband, A father, & A friend,
That Soldier has a name, Eugene Williams.

Author notes

I wrote this in memroy of a highschool friend.  "Gene"  was a wonderful person.  I hope that this puts a message that every soldier has another side.  Our hero, is God's Son, who gave the ultimate sacrifice, his life to save others.  Say a prayer for all of our troops tonight, and every night until they return home safely....

the softer side...the family side, torn away by the harshness of war, that takes whole families and reduces them to pulp...it has no concience this war...which is why we as people need to be the consciousness for it, lest it get out of hand and widow and orphan many who are not yet touched by it's

I'm sorry...for all the tears and pain. To those who is serving our country and has lost their lives in the process will always be remembered. They are the heroes who we will always be grateful to. You are not alone in your grief. Thank you for sharing.

Amazingly well written from the heart.

This is a great, moving poem Staci. I am a vet, from another time, another place, and your tender feelings come through this war toughened heart. Don't want to get personal, but if this warrior is yours, please accept my heartfelt condolences.
You might want to edit 3rd stanza "did you mean knock instead of know?"
