A Humorous Memory

When in the Army, stationed in Germany, I had many friends, but one more than any other. His name was Todd. We were the consumate military duo; we worked hard and played hard. Granted, that meant we spent a LOT of time partying when we were in garrison!

Todd had a girlfriend named Terri... we called them T-n-T.
This particular weekend, Todd was off duty both Saturday and Sunday, while I had duty until 12:00 midnite.

After being relieved, I packed my little carrying bag (as was normal) with a case of beer and a half-gallon of Jack Daniels. A six-pack on each side, the bottle in the middle, and the rest of the cans on top.

I arrived at Terri's townhouse and joined in the drinking. We were letting movies play along with the stereo (love watching the characters lips move to the music... LOL) and we were drinking Jack by the glass and smoking some awesomely dark green, almost black, hash.

We were shooting the shit and laughing when Terri said something that Todd didn't hear while at the same time putting her glasses on upside-down (Terri wore glasses). Todd said "What was that?" and Terri said, "What? I can't hear you; I don't have my glasses on!"

OH MY GOD. To this day it is not nearly as funny as it was right that moment, but AT THAT MOMENT, it was probably the funniest thing the three of us had ever heard said. We laughed to tears, laughed to the floor, cried from laughing so hard, and laughed until we almost threw up.

I know you had to be there to truly partake of the moment, but when three people who were so close shared such a moment, it was a moment that will definitley last a lifetime.

I hope you enjoyed my telling of it, folks!

    Well!
I know about delayed humor. It was probably the 'stuff' that captured the acute angle of it. I remember back in the good ol' bad old days..lol, when I was in Florida with a few other friends. These guys had some special weed. My system rather sensitive anyway, it only took ONE hit and suddenly I felt everything... my sunburn, my sandals, and the thoughts in my brain that prompted some kind of hilarious and BRILLIANT scheme that my mouth could NOT speak out. Later in the shower, I laughed because of how it made me never to truly communicate the intensity of that feeling. So yes.. I know it..lol.

I saw the gal with glasses on upside down and saw nothing. So much for half-witted legacies. The neat thing is... the best of them are ALL yours!

    A funny one, my friend!

    amusing

this is truely quite amusing, i'm sure we all have funny memories that stay with us forever. i'm also sure that at this point in your life, that seems like it is/was a world a way, a lifetime ago. i heard a song on the radio earlier, "Bohemien Rahpsody", and it made me think of my friend Mike, little Mike, and my other friend, big Mike, and Jamie, my roomate and best friend when i was 16yrs old, little Mike was my boyfriend at the time, and we stayed friends after that. he was taken from this earth on february 10th, 2001. but i remember the day he asked me to be his girlfriend, we were at the poolhall, and when i said yes, he hit the q ball so hard it flew off the table. and that song was playing. it was so funny. from a 16yr old's perspective. when i think of him, i think of all the good times, i think of his daughter who was left without a father, and i think of his parents, left without a son, and feel my loss was sad, i lost a good friend, but they lost a family member. RIP Mikey.
    love, monica

      Yeah

Sis, I've outlived so many friends that it seems sometimes life is only compromised of death. Yet we go on. We'll die soon enough, and perhaps when some mourn us, others celebrate having known us, instead. Who's to say? Perhaps one day I will let myself cry for them, and perhaps I will also celebrate having them in my life for a time, instead of being this chunk of lifeless unfeeling flesh.

Although I may not fully appreciate the humour of that day, I do appreciate the laughter shared at one moment between friends. Thank you for sharing your story. I love hearing about people laugh.
