Love is...

It's like a butterfly kiss
with the soft scent of magnolia
caressing my cheeks with the
warm aroma of jasmine

It's like running through fields of daffodils
the subtle touch of each petal on my bare skin
the pleasure of being lost
in an enchanted garden, like heaven

It's the scent of the fresh linen
and the early morning sunshine beaming
through open windows, whilst the birds
provide an harmonic wake up call

It's that distinct feeling you get inside
the humbling, serene warmth that sends
soft, embracing impulses throughout your body
making you tingle from head to toe

It's like the sweet taste of honey
as it trickles down your tongue
leaving that subtle after taste
with that longing for more

It's like breathing in the fresh autumn air
as you crunch through golden leaves
the soft splatter of raindrops
like crystals, shimmering on your palms

It's waking up beside them
wrapped up in their arms
feeling their soft breath on your face
and knowing, you want to stay in that moment forever

    Hi honey,

You know what? I don't even think I know what love really is anymore. Even with such a beautiful and whimsical description, it seems that I am completely out of touch now, thanks to my wanting to detach from my emotional self to avoid getting hurt a second time like the devastating breakup of '03. I don't think I could handle it. It would send me spiraling into a breakdown.

I love all the allusions to nature here, and the warm feelings that are attached. If you asked me to write a poem on this subject I would be forced to sit here blankly and wonder what the hell is so wrong with me that I can't see the sunlit silver lining behind all these dark clouds in my heart.

But regardless of how I feel, this is an excellent piece and I hope (that being my operative word, lol) that I will experience the tender touch of love again...and sooner rather than later.

    Many blessings,

    Raven Aurora

Now 'that's' how I know I've never fell in love! But now I want to This poem was very pleasant to read: nice and soft throughout, both in the flow and the lovely imagery. The last stanza was an excellent conclusion, and the last line... perfect. I admire your boyfriend, if this is how he makes you feel, but I'll tell you this... when WE get 'married', the only scent you'll be smelling is the butter you're churning! Nice write dear
