Love at the End of the World

in Brazil a woman held her laundry basket on her hip
walking along the beach shore
in Africa a man hid behind a wall with his gun
in the surroundings of blood and hate
they were husband and wife
both of them kept their loneliness and sadness to themselves
the woman busied herself at home
while the man was in a war
she kept the picture of him close at all times
they wrote to each other to little the worry of their minds
at the same time they saw the other planets disappear
it became dark everywhere
they both stopped what they were doing
not noticing the reactions of their bodies' heartbeats
just like every other human being around them
they looked in every direction for answers
when nothing comes they look in the direction of the other's location
silently they say "I love you" with tears coming down their cheeks
the woman crumbles to the ground
while the man leans against the wall
both are hoping the other knows their words
but they do in their hearts
within seconds there is a bright light
it blinds the people and swallows them whole
the wind blows away their skin from their bones
like the wind blowing sand in a big pile
the husband and wife both reach for each other in the right direction
before dying completely
