Missing image
Long ago, back in my teens
of flowered shirts, and faded jeans
When painted faces where the scene
and over thirty was obscene

Twas there within this sweet domain
oft times I wander back again
To bathe in multi-coloured rain
neath clouds of crumpled cellophane

What joy I gained from simple things
moved by the sound from sitar strings
I’d float on psychedelic wings
to wild imagined happenings

Here in times  of deep suspense
on wafted streams of sweet incense
That wrapped us in its warm defense
with out the need for recompense

And so a decade passed away
slipping into swift decay
Sadly now to my dismay
I find I’m looking back today

For when my day seems overcast
I roll a spiff and take a blast
Don my shades and Afghan slippers
and ride once more with those day trippers

I love your "crumpled cellophane" clouds. Great image. I think the first stanza is my favorite. It really sets the scene. Suits the prompt song. Not so fond of so much rhyming though. Sounds like we grew up in the same era!

Good luck in the contest. ~ Joyce

How did I miss this superb piece? I was glancing through your (enormous) collection of trophies, and saw this. Another amazing piece. The 4 line rhymes, often so difficult, you managed flawlessly again. Really excellent piece. Not worthy, not worthy lol

Oh I am so pleased to see you back Legend. Again a nostalgic poem. You know I do like them a lot. Would you also like to go back to the 70s once again? I do... Indeed then life was colourful and cheerful. I would like to listen to that music, smelling the incense, dancing on the rythm and just being care free. Nowadays, young people would think that we are very strange, but I am sure we were much happier then than they are now. Nice poem Legend. I will read your next ones tomorrow. I am delayed in reading/commenting for I have not been here for a week, because of a holiday. Anna.

It grows in the ground. It is natural. Ergo, it must be good for you! Yep, good for what ails ya - LOL. I gave it up years ago in favor of, of all things, cigarettes. At the time, cigarettes were cheaper. I'm not so sure anymore... Delightful poem, Legend! I was a kid in the 60s, but plenty old enough to do at least some of this! Let's just say that when bell bottom pants came back last year, I didn't think it was something new in fashion! I'm wearing a tie-died t-shirt as I write this comment.. .LOL. This was a great trip (no puns intended) down memory lane! Toni

Oh what a spin those psychedelic sixties were really in! Flower power, and oh yeah! Mini skirts and granny dresses.... Neru shirts, fringe, and bell bottoms, the wild hair do's (bows, beaus, and beehives), beatnik lingo, the peace sign "V". I was not into the drug scene ever, but I remember hip-hugger pants and go-go dancers, lots of dark eye-liner and white-pink lipstick, the swim, the jerk, the watusi, and the mashed potatoes. LOL It really was wild. But like all parents in former generations, the adults hated our music. Apparently the more things change, the more they stay the same. Thank you for the trip! Loved reading this... Ya wanna make the scene? ~ Klassy

Legeeeeend!!! I missed uuuu! U had me worried that u'd stopped writing!

I like this poem. I wasn't a part of the movement really though. (I was born in 1982.. so... lolz!) But I can identify with taking a trip down memory lane. I must say that even though I'm still young, I have moments when I think, "Good Lord! I'd never have had to worry about that a couple years ago!)

I pity the youth of today that did not have the opportunity to be part of what seemed a wonderful time of youth. When anything seemed possible Thank you once again for your comment I am pleased that you enjoyed it

This is terrific. You have really captured the love-in era of the 60's. I didn't participate in much of it...I was married with two babies. I rememember watching the goings on at Woodsstock on the news. We live not too far from there. I thought the entire younger generation was going to self destruct in one big psychedelic haze. I loved the music though. A favorite was, "Are you going to San Francisco? Be sure to wear a flower in your hair." Hated the clothes! It's great to read one of your poems. Welcome back. Perfectly written...as always. Peace man! ~ Sue

Ohh ---just spin me back down the years Legend lol---I had the faded bleached jeans, bleached them myself and finished up with great big holes in them lol, and ohhhhhh an afghan coat which stunk like a dead ferret once it got wet, my mum throw it out lol. So many memories are captured in this wonderful write which you have turned into a beautiful trip down that old memory road--we seem to go there often these days don't we Legend. Excellent. Good luck in the contest.
