Real High School

I'm living in a brand new town.
Everyone around here seems to be so sound.
I can't help but feel the stares as I walk into the room.
I really want to know what they assume.

I'm from a different state, not a different world.
Why can't they see that I'm just an average girl?
Some of them think that I'm weird because I talk funny.
Some of them think I'm stuck up becuase I have money.

The truth is, I'm not.
I'm comfortable with what I've got.
Why can't that be enough for them?
My chances of being accepted here seem slim.

Day in and day out, I go through this pain.
In the end, what will they gain?
Happiness? Knowing that they've all done their part.
That they've done their best to destroy what's left of my heart.

A part of me died when I left my old town.
Another part died when they shot me down.
All the time, thinking they're the ultimate cool.
Welcome to the world of a real high school.

    hey

Sorry I judged this contest so late. I had a million and one things to do.

I find it easy to identify with your poem, though I had a very good reason not to put all my own poems like this on the internet. And that reason is, that everybody feels like you described at a certain point of there lives. And a little originality certainly wouldn’t harm anyone.

Your poem is a lot like a million poems I wrote. It is teenage thinking. Just like a lot of the other poems that entered this contest.

Going to an other school is certainly hard, I understand. Plus being in puberty isn’t the right combination. I hope that when you are older, and read this poem again, and my comment, you will understand the way I see your poem.

    Love & peace

Ps.: If you read some of the comments on other poems, you will see that a lot of them are the same, because I decided to make my comments just as original as the poems.

It's very true that new people get isolated sometimes, or people misconceive them based on their money or on the way they look or speak. Not all high schools are like that .. just the really plastic and jocky ones. I hope you manage/managed to settle down at the school you were at; good luck in the contest.

    Excellant

Well written. I like your honest description of how we humans tend to isolate someone new, or someone whose lifestyle we don't understand.
