Amid a garden’s sun specked smile
a child frolicks all beguiled
by laughing faces gently swaying
‘Pon sultry breezes while she’s playing
She acts a princess on this day
each head bows down a certain way
to give her pleasure in her passing
as if they’d spent the hours rehearsing
Sharing tea with gallant lords
answers pleas from amassing hordes
showing pity for their plight
and hears their cat-calls of delight
The daylight now is fading fast
her mother calls, ‘It’s supper lass’
she’ll reign tomorrow for a while
amid a garden’s sun specked smile

Fantastic
Aw, such a sunny poem! Filled with dreams of a child. It's amazing what a child can do within the confines of fantasy. It was a way of passing the time for me. Ah, the childhood memories. A brilliantly thought up poem. Good luck lass. Not that you'll need it.

OH! B&P dreadfully boring indeed, shall I send my li'l secret friend, she stays mainly hidden away, but comes out to visit often when lunar light is seen to play! After placing a wee kiss upon your brow maybe she'll take you by the hand and fly you away to a fairy wonderland?
Never stop dreaming it adds the right amount of spice to your day

I really enjoyed this piece. Sounds like the kingdom that is ruled by my 6 year old daughter. Love the pattern and imagery. Thanks for the brief getaway. Well done.

This took me way back to a farm where we used to go for a few days in the summer when I was a child, I used to wear a tablecloth for a cape and pretend I ws a queen, such a lovely memory of the farm orchard and garden this poem brought back for me. beautiful light and breezy work. Excellent. Good luck in the contest.

Sun flowers have always had a special place in my heart ever since I was a little girl. My grandma would tell me stories bringing them to life around us. Monet's painting brought back a sweet memory I just had to share

This is delightful. I wish children used their imagination more today. Childhood was once such a magical time. This is beautifully written. You do have a wonderful way with words. ~ Sue

You've caught the wonder of the picture so well. The dappled sunlight, flowers and the lass are all portrayed beautifully by your write. Viewers of the picture will be left with only the imagery in their mind, but once given direction by your poem, we see some of what you see. It's very pretty.
-
On my first reading of this I was bothered by the mix of past and present tense of words in the first verse. Was the story being told as a memory, or as it was being viewed? I think changing "frolicked" to "frolicks" would easily clear up any confusion on this. Hairsplitting I'm sure.
Beyond that I love the imagery and the light and airy feel to the piece. Your rhyming is very natural sounding. A wonderfully written poem and I wish you good luck in the contest.
