who's treatment is deliberate and bold.
The longer free radicals mutate healthy cells,
their containment becomes harder to hold.
A precision strike is like removing a tumor,
but uncertain if the borders are clear.
Ground troops examine the results like a lab,
it's common that sleeper cells do appear.
We must now resort to a more widespread attack,
the goal is to eliminate every known cell.
A two ton munition is equivalent to radiation,
it's effectiveness, only time will tell.
Next we determine if they were able to spread.
the cells that might have found refuge.
Ground troops and shelling are the chemotherapy,
reigning on the entire area like a deluge.
No entity will never be totally cancer free,
until the source is completely destroyed.
Unfortunately, many good will die with the bad,
the very nature of the treatment we deploy.
Author notes
I see these terror cells as a cancer and the treatment that works seems to be similar to that of real cancer.

This is a great analogy and it's very well thought out and presented with a great sense of style. The title really imparts a bit of irony that seems to give the poem more balance.
The last line of the third verse doesn't seem to flow as well as the rest of the poem, but overall it reads exceedingly well.
For the record, I view the current conflict as the equivilent of beating up the neighbor in case he has some cancer in him that might get me. But your piece was a great exploration of a very valid metaphor for a very real problem. And you did it in a very even handed way, noting that the results cannot be judged yet and ackonowledging the collateral damage this approach is causing.
It might be intersting to add another verse about your notion of Bush as a free radical that might be causing more cancer to grow. It would add more depth and ambivelance about the current conflict which I think most of us are feeling now.
Overally, it was a great read. Thanks for sharing!

I am sure there is potential for controversy here but you were too gentle with your opinion and I couldn't quite decide if you were for or against. It seemed like you are sitting on the fence, which was not what my contest asked for. A decent poem though on its own.
-

wow strong views and great use of words. Your writing is unique the poem flows fantasicly and I can feel the emotion through this write well done my friend
-
I am not entirely sure of your feelings on the matter after reading this. You just seem to be making a comparrison, not taking a stand, which is fine.
This is not really a poem, it is a though it uses metaphor well.
The problem is that Bush didn't pass his history class. There is no way to win this. It has become another Vietnam. The best thing he could do would be to withdraw forces and allow these countries to lick their wounds and rebuild without American interference. American intervention will just cause more and more hatred in the long run. -
I applaud your metaphor, and as that is often the most effective cancer treatment we have to extend and save lives, even as a peace-loving person I see how there is a need for eradication of a crafty and heartless killer who would otherwise wipe out all cells to the mutated way. But the "hell" of war and treatment is often that we kill that which we were fighting for. This is a bold piece and you delivered it well.
-
Very well done
Unique way of stating your opinion. -
You said: "As far as bush wanting to dictate the world, he's not smart enough to contemplate that." That's rather hysterical considering the fact he's got a masters degree from Harvard none the less, so, I really don't think it is a case of wits at all. Nor does he want to "dictate" the world. But, I'm sure I can just press the play button on your liberal tuning and watch you rant on about the gas prices and global warming and how it's all Bush's fault. Infact, I could probably recite everything you'd have to say against him.
-
I tend to agree with you to a certain extent. That's why I commented in the author's section. This wasn't intended to be pro Bush or pro war. It was intended to reflect the reality of the world face today!
-
I BELIEVE THAT BUSH IS THE TUMOR ITSELF BRINGING NOTHING BUT WAR AND DESTRUCTION.

I can't say that I'm thrilled with either right now. You point is well taken and thanks again for commenting.

An intelligent piece, I am not a fan of bush, or the american government at all.

Unfortunately, war is never good for anyone either. It has to be addressed just the same. Thank you for taking time to make an informed comment.
-
Thank you so much for your objective commenting!
-
This is an interesting way to look at war. As with cancer, sometimes the treatment kills the host. So even though we are killing the cancer cells. We kill the white blood cells. So my question is what good is the chemotherapy when you are killing the good white blood cells? Cancer is never a good thing for anyone.
-
I HATE WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing this.

thank you for commenting in such a way that is both informed and reasonable. I don't foster any forced aggression in the of democracy or any thing else. I do believe that there is evil in the world with the sole purpose of harming americans and their allies (if we have any left). If you read the comment in the authors section, I made reference to Bush being a cancerous agent trying to cure a cancer. He is a free radical that incites the growth of the cancer in question. Something has to be done, I would hope it could be done much, much better. Great contest and I can't wait to read some of the entries. Thank again for commenting!

Hello,Suseann here.I don't think our country is divided on this.Pushing only results in pushing returned. Stupidity starts wars.Ignorance feeds the fires of wars. American free informed thinking folk are niether.
-
So your position is that it is to foster Israeli-American Aggression, but that this is a good thing. My question would be, which is the cancer? Forced democracy is not democracy. The resistance to democracy may increase. "One idea will live provide the others die." Is that really what freedom is about? It is a pretty good poem.

Peace.

Thank you for taking time to comment and for the support. I appreciate your view as well. I think we spend a little too much second guessing every decision and this continues to distract us for the problem at hand. thanks again for commenting and for the applause.
-
Thank you for reading this for what it is. Most of the people who had the knowledge to even respond were all on the same page. It's a bad situation, there is a cancer to deal with, and Bush has been far from perfect. I really appreciate your opinion and applause. Take care.
-
I agree.Bombs solve nothing.War has no winners. If we want to illiminate terrorist cells. It requires far better spy work than we seem to be capable of first. Then isolating and taking them out. I'd also say.Or was going to anyway.Diplomacy.But it's far to late for many who see encrouchment on them to ever listen.~~Suseann However,a new generation is not blinded nor totally bound by all consuming hate I can hope.
-
If you read my authors comment I think you see it was an attempt to show both. I tried to keep my politcal views seperate from the problem at hand. I think if more could do that we would not find our country so divided. Thank you for taking time to comment. Having said that, I hope i haven't sickened you!

Here's a Q:
Any President in this position do better?
I guess we will see.
The future may see Mr. Bush in a diff light, just as we see Mr. Carter now.
Either way- it's a whole different ballgame.
How does one beat all the ants and spare the crickets?
Bring the troops home. Let them fix their world.
Or...would that also be a mistake?
Hindsight is 20/20.
Foresight is total blindness-
when it comes to WAR.
Just rambling...sorry.
I like your writing.
ALL WE ALL WANT IS PEACE.

Your message is unclear. Are you saying....
1) Bush and his cronies are doctors fighting against the "cancer of terrorism";
2) Bush and his cronies are a load of crazy fascists who are using the threat of "terrorism" as an excuse to attack other countries in a misguided attempt to impose their version of democracy on them.
If (2) I'm with you. If (1) I am sickened. -
This is a smart looking into this subject. The metaphor was perfect, and I really mean that. The most important part to me was the title. That was really what made me 'click'.
-
Thank you for a non biased comment and an obvious insight to the bigger picture. trust me, I don't agree at all with the attitude and thoughtlessness Bush has displayed in trying to achieve what I believe to be a worthy effort. I do appreciate your comments and applause as I suspect they won't all be that kind. Thanks again and take care!
