A Collection of Trysts

It had been so long since I had been with another,
And now since I've been alone.
I poured all of  myself into you.
I forget now how to be one.

We sat out one day and you said to me,
"I see the stars reflect in your eyes."
Such words you whispered day after day...
I believed them - now my demise.

A total of six months we were together,
through thick and through thin
I was never yours and you were never mine
But into my heart no others came in.

I sit here dwelling in the past,
Reliving each and every tryst.
Sometimes I can't fight back the tears,
Sometimes I pray affliction didn't exist.

However, I learned a great deal from you,
So much about myself and the heart:
You can never change someone  or yourself,
And forcing love will tear two apart.
