Your living among the chaos
only a war can bring,
dreaming of home
as you watch your brothers backs,
I pray for your safe return.
I wash the car,
change the oil,
pump the gas,
I am a soldier's wife.
I cook for one,
instead of two.
The dogs sleep in bed now,
to warm your side,
I just can't take the coldness
of only me in bed.
But I survive
I am a soldier's wife.
I pay the bills,
mow the lawn,
trim the shrubs,
fix the washer,
all in a day,
with out you here
I am a soldier's wife.
I live for the chats,
and hope to hear your voice,
living on Iraqi time,
though I'm safe here at home
wishing you will be here soon
I am a soldier's wife.

wonderful
This is a terrific poem. You put into words the feelings and life of so many soldiers wives. It is sad, and yet you speak of getting through each day, with your eyes on the prize of him coming home. My husband was Navy, I can relate. wonderful job on this, and I hope he is home soon. -
This is a very good write that you had penned here your rhythm flowed beautifully throughout the entire poem good luck in the contest

it's hard to say you get used to it, it gets easier, but I don't know if it's cuz you get used to it or you just get numb to it. But thank you for the wonderful comment, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and will return the favor shortly.

Beautiful
Hi there, first of all, all the best for the contest. This is a wonderful poem, so heart felt and emotional. Who says only soldiers are patriots? People like you too are real patriots, dedicating your family be in son, brother, husband or whoever for the nation. I think at times you somehow get used to it, yet there is this feeling of missing the one you love. I can understand your emotions, spending each moment wondering the well being of your loved ones, its truly difficult, this is good poem, the flow is good, loved reading it, have a great time. Hope your husband is hale and hearty where ever he is.
