So tired of all the reveries and dreams
That end in wounded hearts and lonely sighs,
These puffs of thought, all laced with worldly gleams,
Cannot relieve the longing in my eyes
To gaze into the orbs of Holy love,
The blackened pearls of sacred turtledove;
Myself I also see, and fall as dead...
But grace for grace, He lifts my humbled head.

Author notes
One wish to do or be...
Well, when I was little I used to dream of flying... I used to dream of a lot of things... And I still dream of things. I'm at the age now where I'm actually having to fight off some dreams, simply because I feel they can be a distraction at times.
One of the dreams that I sometimes have to fight off is wanting to be married someday- it's a dream I'm had for a long time, but it's gotten more intense in the last few years.
Specifically, I dream about spending time with someone, being able to hold them, help them, love on them... But I also dream in detail, as in, I dream about what it must be like to look into the eyes of someone that loves you intimately... knowing they love you for who you are, and IN SPITE OF who you REALLY are...
This opportunity may still be mine someday, of course.
But, in thinking on this contest, I didn't just want to dream about looking into a lover's eyes... because even that love fades in the light of God's love... I wanted to look into the eyes of my Eternal Lover.
But even in thinking of this, I realized that this would be close to impossible! God is so HOLY- to gaze into the eyes of PURE HOLINESS... Just thinking about having that option made me want to cry!- because I know how wretched I am...
But, oh- what AMAZING LOVE!...Jesus WANTS to look into our eyes! He WANTS to gaze at us! Even now, He's doing everything in His power to catch our attention!
My wish for this contest was this: For just one moment... I would like to have Jesus, the Lover of my soul, lifting my eyes with His own nail-pierced hand, to gaze into His own.
That's why I wrote this poem.
** This poem is dedicated to "GreenHornet", an acquaintance from my blog. He posted something that helped inspire some of this poem.

Howdy!
I was glad to get to enter one of your contests again- haven't done so for awhile... Just couldn't come up with something fitting, ya know?
I did another one of those "Waltz Wave" form poems recently- I think you'd like it.

Yesh, ma'am.
If He can love me, it's a breeze for Him to love you.
Thanksh, ma'am...

"Jesus loves me, this I know..."
And He loves you, too!

I'm so sorry, Mary- I thought I'd already replied to this!
I wanted to tell you that I loved the Mother Theresa quote- in fact, I think I'm going to write it down... Just reading that made an impact in my thoughts.
Thank you! -
Destiny is often evidenced by the thing longed for. The Bible attests to this; those who are led by the Spirit of God are the Children of God. Those who love like Him and love Him, will be with Him. He grants such desires that delight in Him. I would be surprised, dear sis, if we don’t meet later by the Tree of Life. I believe you know His Name.
Wisdom is fostered in you in the knowing of Him, as you are aware of how this world is pathetic in its natural glory, compared to the riches and charms found in the Son of God. The Father was so wise to send His desirous Son, for those who are meant to be His would swoon to Him.
You have so swooned, and it marks a great beauty in you, as I can attest.
I have attested, as you now read. Praise the Son who resides in you, dear sis...

"Eternal Lover" I am drawn to that phrase. Such a vast and endless love that any form of human love (even that of mother and child) pales in its light. You have described it well in this moving verse and in your author's notes.
Mother Teresa said that when she looked into the eyes of the dying, the starving, the sick and suffering she saw the eyes of Jesus...I can think of no truer perception than that. You never fail to touch my spirit with your poetry.
