Friends of Days, Months and Years

Friends of Days, Months and Years
©copyright 2006 Bonita M Quesinberry, R.C.

Speak of three friends, though blessed I am with more?
'Tis a task I cannot do in fairness,
thus I speak of each one: a happy chore.

There is no doubt Jesus is my best friend,
for He gave me salvation's awareness;
that I know the beginning beyond end.

Fifty-two years Helen's known me, the child;
those vain days stifled by ugly darkness,
yet we each grew away from days so vile.

There is Anita of forty odd years:
got who I was then, and who I've become,
'midst much laughter, adversities and tears.

Joanne, of few years, watches over me;
a sister of the heart, kind and wholesome,
guardian of love and more: without fee.

Of few months is Debby; my sister, too,
who promotes my work: never quarrelsome
while standing firm 'midst our flock of so few.

Mustn't forget ever faithful Brian:
his words, always a soothing balm to me,
help keep my focus beyond Orion.

And Tony, a Shakespearian rascal,
is guarding my back when I turn to see;
"Don't stop," he says with the flower paschal.

Of few days, new sister Sherry gives love
that lifts me higher than I ought to be,
while she works on holiness, as God above.

One friend? I am so blessed with these and more;
thus, even now I have failed at fairness,
for to speak of each is a wordy chore.

Therefore, with my Lord and friend, this I end
and bow to my brethren of awareness.
Yea, Christ shed His blood to give each good friend.

    This is so sweet. Your friends must have loved it. Were I to write a similar piece it would end up being far too long for a poem. They say that brevity is the soul of wit. If this is true, you have truly encapsulated wisdom in friendship. Well done!

    Wow this is a great write of such powerful friendships. It must be so incredible to have known someone for 53 years. Being only 18, I would have no idea what that's like. This was very charming. I enjoyed it.

    Thank You!

    I know that it is not needed,
    That I say,
    "You are beautiful!"
    For I am sure
    that you are fully awair
    of that fact.
    But in case you are not,
    I should say,
    "You are most beautiful,
    and I am proud
    to call you my friend!"

    Can't see for the tears.... Darling, we all love you so. You honor us by being our friend. This is the most beautiful tribute to the group. Brave warriors who stick to their beliefs are rare and a treasure to find. Your Godliness is a blessing to me and I love you my Christian Sister.
