Four Friends (part 1)

One cold, icy, December afternoon, Bailey, Tyler, Heather, and Keith were on their way home from school. When they all got to Heather’s they started talking about how school was going and were so phased that they were soon to be seniors.
Their conversation headed in a new direction, relationships. Bailey crossed her fingers and hoped that Heather wouldn’t say anything about Tyler. Unfortunately, the next thing Heather said was that Bailey and Tyler should hook up. Bailey dreaded those words, got so red, and ran out of the room crying. Tyler was as red as a fire truck, and he sat there silently.
Heather didn’t understand what was wrong with her best friend so she ran after Bailey. Keith couldn’t care one bit about the matter, but then he saw the confused, mixed with a little curiosity, scared look in Tyler’s eyes and said something to him.
“Tyler, what do you think about this? I am your best friend. You can tell me everything.” Tyler shrugged and walked out.
Bailey and Heather were having some different problems. Bailey was mad at Heather for telling Tyler and Keith her big secret that she had been keeping for a year. Heather was paying no attention to Bailey. She was thinking of the next thing she could so to get Tyler to herself.1

Everyone went home in a bad mood. When Heather finally got inside and talked to her mom, she found out that Bailey’s dad had been in a car accident and was life-lighted to the hospital.
Heather felt horrible for what had happened to Bailey’s dad, and what she had said to Tyler and Keith was just another thing Bailey was going to have to handle. Heather called Tyler and Keith to tell them the bad news. They all three felt heart broken because they had all been very close to Bailey’s dad.
Besides Bailey and her family, this was very on Tyler. Tyler’s dad was a business man and he traveled a lot. One late night as he was on his way home, he was hit by a drunk driver and killed. Tyler was only nine. Ever since then Bailey’s dad has been a huge influence on him.
When Tyler hung up the phone he rushed to the hospital to meet Bailey and her family. Once he got there Bailey jumped into his arms and held him until she could hold no longer. She was crying her eyes out.
Tyler walked into the room and saw Mr. Bret Simons lying in the hospital bed silent and motionless.
Tyler took Bailey home that night and she invited him in. They talked and talked, about everything. They just loved being in the company of one another. Bailey got nervous and asked Tyler what he thought about what Heather had said earlier that day.
There was an awkward silence between the two friends. While they stared into each other’s eyes, Bailey awaited an answer. Tyler grabbed Bailey’s hand, kissed it gently, and left without saying a single word.2

The next day the four friends got together. They went to have lunch, go see Mr. Bret Simons, and then go to Tyler’s. Heather could tell that Bailey and Tyler’s relationship was getting stronger. She hated that. Instead of breaking them apart, she just made them closer.
Heather took Tyler aside and told him her feelings and thought that he would respect her for being open about it unlike Bailey. She could tell that Tyler was uncomfortable so she told him that she could just stay at his place after Bailey and Keith left so they could have some alone time.
As Bailey came around the corner, Heather had pulled Tyler close and kissed him. Bailey couldn’t believe this, after everything she and talked about with Tyler, after how open he had been with her. How could he do this?
Bailey ran to Tyler and Heather, jerked them apart and stood between them. First she looked into Heather’s eyes and realized that she wasn’t her friend. Then she looked into Tyler’s eyes and realized that he hadn’t meant to hurt her but he also wanted Heather. What was Bailey to do?
Bailey talked to Keith all day the next day. She told him everything. He wanted to make her feel better so he took her to their old clubhouse. Bailey was hesitant to go inside because this is one place that she and Heather were real friends.
After a few minutes Keith had just said the perfect thing to make her go in. There, on the floor were traces of someone being there. After a few minutes they realized that it was Tyler and Heather. They searched the place for them, but it was empty. Bailey soon said that she felt sick to her stomach and wanted to leave.
When Keith dropped her off she saw Tyler sitting on the front porch with roses. She was excited, happy, and angry all at the same time.
Bailey told Tyler that she didn’t know if she could trust him again.
