Red Is The Colour

~ ~ ~

Red is the colour of war stricken lawns
Red in the colour of unbleached dawns

Red is the colour of blood in the sky
Red is the colour of fire dancing high

Red is the colour of suicidal sores
Red is the colour of eternal wars

Red is the colour of guns and knives
Red is the colour of abuse-filled lives

Red is the colour of murderous screams
Red is the colour of shattering dreams

Red is the colour of crashing cars
Red is the colour of pain-hiding scars

Red is the colour of rape and death
Red is the colour of each angst-filled breath

Red is the colour of burning and dying
Red is the colour of hurting and lying

Red is the colour of blood-shot eyes
Red is the colour of shrieking cries

Red is the colour of breathing in vain
Red is the colour of nothing but pain

~ ~ ~

Red is the colour of a love now found
Red is the colour of friends all around

Red is the colour of a love in the heart
Red is the colour of a love never to part

Red is the colour of sun in the sky
Red is the colour of a tender sigh

Red is the colour of hands in another
Red is the colour of a friend and lover

Red is the colour of satin sheets
Red is the colour of a heart that beats

Red is the colour of ribbons and roses
Red is the colour of softly bitten noses

Red is the colour of lips and a kiss
Red is the colour of contented bliss

Red is the colour of hugs and skin
Red is the colour of a deep love within

Red is the colour of valentine’s day
Red is the colour of a love to stay

Red is the colour of trying to survive
Red is the colour of staying alive

~ ~ ~

Red is the colour of harmony and harm
Red is the colour of chaos and calm

Red is the colour of passion and strife
Red is the colour that tells us of life

Author notes

The colour red and I have an odd connection. Red is love and hate, and good and evil. It is open to one's own opinions and emotions of the time. To me, something that powerful is special. I've simply tried to capture red with words.

"I read the rules!!!"

    wow

Hey hey! Heres's something I was lookin for! Great job with the rhyme and you had that depth of seriousness that made this piece so profound. Lots of repetition but thats really what life is isnt it? A cycle of good and evil....

    Merry meet,
Congratulations on winning the Bronze. This is a wonderful juxtaposition poem. I loved it. There really isn't anything I could offer that could improve the poem in content or form. This was a tight competition. I would be honored it you would let me place this on my Author's Page of my favorite poems.
    Congratulations again.

Red is the colour of each angst-filled breath, this is my favorite line out of this. This is really cool. I like how you take the two different sides of one color and bring them to life as one in the world.

Very nice! It seems that both people writing about the red picture captured a lot about that particular character. You did an awsome job doing that, especially for a prewrite. Thank you for entering it into the contest

Absolutely amazing! so amazing that i am going to applaud twice, which i haven't done before! damn i tried twice but it wouldnt let me... oh well i applaud this again without the applaude button. i am learning lots of things from my friends on this site, mostly new styles and inspirations for my own styles, this poem does just that for me. Red is my second favourite colour and i like the way you show equal amounts of positive and negative views/connotations. I admire this poem, please keep up your excellent standard of poetry! xx Brett

This is a really great poem. I loved the contrast you used, which is perhaps most evident in the lines "Red is the colour of nothing but pain" and "Red is the colour of staying alive" - these were brilliant. The final two couplets formed a great ending, finishing the poem and summing up it's message.

Red is such a powerful colour, and I agree that it's up to each person to decide what it means to them. Love, hate, anger, passion - it can all be summed up with red. That's why it's one of my favourite colours!

Red is energy. Red is life.

I like this very much, I've always been interested in colour symbolism and I like to see others take ons of it. You're right, red IS a powerful colour, its both angry and passionate, the colour of so many bad things but the promise of so many good. Its a good colour
I absolutely adore how you wrote this, the rhyming worked well for it and your style was great. Fantastic, I was caught by the time I'd finished the first line x x x x x
