here i see you stepping down from the fabled spotlight
wearing nothing but a crown and your rolling tears
you never thought that you could say anything that's right
so typical, you succumb to silence and your fears
i'll capture your profanity, frame it on the wall
your face would whisper to the dark what you think of it all
i make only melodies, you distort them with your cries
drowning in the misery of a world full of lies
i'm not here to judge you,
peel away the layers of your onion-skinned soul
go ahead and wear your own reflection
face to face, these shallow mirrors only make a hole
where's your voice, your dignity?
it's trapped in boxes, floating
down the river of memory
where's the laughter and the heart
you've said you treasured most?
did they fade away, like long-forgotten ghosts?
i'm not here to judge you,
tear away your camouflage
it's your only friend,
in a life you could never mend,
i know, i know

Yes, that last stanza is quite rough, but it does get to me too. Thank you for your generous applause and praise.

What a creative, and lyrical write!
The last stanza was my favorite.
Good luck in this contest!
